My sister cut the wires off my two Scalextric throttle controllers using a pair of scissors so she and her friend could use them as pretend star-trek ray-guns in a pretend space battle.
This was a few years ago. Not recently.

He wants about 38,000B for the track, and bits. I think he paid more than , or almost, that for the power supply.

I did put the place it was for sale in my OP. He is a mate and not on TD! Maybe you don't have any?
