If it has been garaged for 2 years and has 5K on the clock it's not exactly new.

I thought that if a vehicle isn't taxed for 2 years it then has to be re-registered. Or is it 3 years?

'garaged for 2 years' made me assume that it had been in a garage for 2 years.

When I had to tax my bikes I had to go to a service centre that made masking tape 'rubbings' of the engine and frame numbers. All part of the tax application procedure.

If it's not taxed, you have to pay the back tax and fines before you can renew the tax on it.

    Now that is harsh!

Granted these bikes are made as cheaply as possible so you get what you pay for.

I borrowed one in the village for half an hour,it was sluggish but not that bad.

It had a much better paint job though Camo!

Fock Al tenner I'll give you a bulleyes for it

I sold my Transalp for 3,000b to a neighbour and he brought it back the next day wanting his money back. He said he didn't want to re-register because it hadn't been taxed in 2 years.

I asked Red Baron if they wanted it for parts but they're not interested. Not enough Transalps in Thailand. Asked about not paying the tax on it for 2 years and he wasn't sure if it was 2 or 3 years but it would need the import docs to register it again, which I don't think I've got anymore.

So you can pay back-tax on a vehicle before 2 years is up? (poss 3 years?)

I'm keeping hold of it for the time being because I've decided to look for another off-roader. If I come across another Transalp cheap enough then I may consider buying it and keep my old one for spares or custom painting it then swap the parts over.
If I don't get a Tranny you'll be more than welcome to it. It was sitting in the water for 6 weeks during the Big Flood.

I'd be very interested in the transalp too gazza, looking for one for spares/parts at the moment. Willing to make an offer if you decide to sell it.

    Cheers

NO don't be silly. the Chinese make the shite so they know exactly how bad they are made. I can though guarantee that three months down the line the guy who bought it is going to wish he had spent that few thousand baht more and got a far older Honda or Yamaha nodel.
