heys guys, enjoyed my recent trip...never realized it was so cold. I have the company polo shirt on and my suppliers had ski jackets on!!...that whole hong kong/shenzhen area is like a mini nuclear winter...the sun does not shine..i did come across this interesting webpage doing research on Hong Kong..
141 HK Girls DB - the most completed and up-to-date informations for finding call girls!!!
did not use it, however thought worth noting..massage seems good value (if not with TGF)..Arrived late friday night...went for a walk to get my bearings..then Saturday up early.. leisurely breakfast and across border for an afternoons work in Shenzhen.....saturday night too cold to do anything but stay in and enjoy the suite..on the sunday did the cable car up to the peak (all you can see is smog)and walked back down next to Botanical gardens along the charming old peak road. Through mid levels, then soho...after that i grabbed a cab down to Star Ferries for a loverly boat ride over to kowloon side for next to nothing...had a walk along the Avenue of Stars..got a great photo of the famous bruce lee statue in the smoggy skyline....appalled by the pollution. Nice way to spend a sunday afternoon.
Will follow other posters recommendations next time. But after only two nights i managed to get to china by train from hong kong island ,deal with two dead BlackBerries...travelled around kowloon side deal with TSE MRT systems at rush hour.. and then harbour side/avenue of stars which is basically above the TSE MRT stations...also the view back across to Hong kong Island...managed to get up to the the peak by cable car..spend 5mins looking smog..bought a what i though was not an over priced Whooper meal. Visited the night life areas of LKF, Soho and Wanchai...although just walking through and not drinking..Soho seems quite a cool place and less busy.
However nice city Hong kong and i will be back...stayed Shengwan area..love the airport express...get to the Airport really quickly and a nice view at night as you speed past Kowloon..public transport is great...i ate mostly from 7/11 or mini marts loverly selection of sandwiches/fruit and UK snacks that i had not tasted in years.....that and the Hotel breakfast was enough to keep me going...didnt go out on piss but was amazed how many people out in LKF area that friday night when i went for a wander...people spilling out of street everywhere..bought beers from mini mart...overall spent next to nothing...Hong kong is cheap enough as long as you first accept hotels are more expensive and if you go out on the lash its going to hurt. Forget about P4P in Wanchai..seems a shit hole and a hear nothing good about it...especially comparing against Thailand. I briefly walked through Wanchai around midnight and reading a lot of info online i quickly summed it up. Over priced Shithole...felt very safe walking around late at night.Taxi back to hotel.
Hong Kong taxi's are probably Asias best...nice friendly drivers, clean cars...quick but safe and automatically opening doors...they even round down the fair...after living in Phuket thats amazing..managed to get a deal on Agoda for a new business hotel...small suite US$130...walking distance to LKF was only 15mins...
Thats the reccy out of the way...next time i will bring the TGF

Ah Hong Kong
I took my thai girlfriend there for a weeks hols, stayed in a big posh ritzy hotel on the left hand side, kowloon side, above the big shopping mall there.
Poignant because that was where I got to see in her passport, while she was showering, and all the entry/exit stamps that shouldn't have been there.
Didn't just leave her there though, did the honorable thing and took her back before jetisoning.
Ah Hong Kong
Excellent pics and information, S.Landreth.
Looks like you had a great time!
Thoroughly enjoyed scrolling through your thread SLandreth....As I mentioned in another HK thread it has been a good 12 years and I need to go back....Although I can only take vast crowds of people in small doses normally HK is different...it is exciting to be amongst it all
thanks mate

Got to this thread late, S Landreth. Really brought back some memories. Lived in HK 3 times between 1978 and 2001, and it changed a huge amount in that time. Looked like quite a lot has changed in the ensuing decade, for instance SoHo was just starting to take over from Lan Kwai Fong as the nightlife place when I left. Thanks for the pics & the memories
Was stationed there in 1980 at HMS Tamar and had a great time at Kowloon, wan chai, ocean park etc was good value for money then. Can anybody tell me what happened to Tamar
When in 1980? My Dad was on HMS Wolverton based out of Tamar from 1978 till mid 1980. Small world.Originally Posted by jamiejambos
Last I knew (2001) it was still there, but had been taken over by the Chinese (ie Chinese forces were using it). You could still see into it from the bridge from Princes Building. Do you remember the China Fleet Club, Jamie?
well I only went once a couple of years ago and you could certainly tell the difference between the HK Chinese and those from the mainland. HK Chinese very helpful and friendly to visitors, the other pretty rude and ignorant. I wish i had gone before, but certainly a place worth going to again and a good deal more interesting than Singapore, at least they knew how to build an airport, miles better than Bkk.
You'd have missed possibly meeting Dad by a few months then. HK was wonderful back then (or maybe that's just carefree childhood memories)Originally Posted by jamiejambos
I remember the Wolverton and Wasperton still being there and HMS Scimitar a curious turbine-driven fast patrol boat which had a Chinese dog as a mascot that looked like a little black&white jack Russell who hated Chinese.
He used to fly down the gangway every time a Chinese person walked by barking
visciously but was completely docile when it came to Brits.
That's it! Was trying to think of the other one. All I could remember was the Wolverton and the Yarnton. Thank you!Originally Posted by jamiejambos
A lot of them did back then. The Wolverton's dog was a tan coloured mutt called Murphy. Not sure how he felt towards Chinese, but he liked going on the banyans with all the families. He loved kids.Originally Posted by jamiejambos
Did you ever go across to Hay Ling Chau (think that's spelt right)? They used to have banyans/bbqs there and there was a little resort type place there for short holidays. It's been taken over by Chinese penal system now (or had been in the 90s)
Many times and Cheung chau island were you could buy seafood of all descriptions at the local market and then take it to a local restaurant who would cook it for you and your party for a small fee. My ,how the time has flown, great memories.
Tamar is now the site of Government offices.
The Prince of Wales Barracks has been reclad recently and the name removed.
The Chinese Navy has requested that a 100 metre stretch of waterfront there is fenced off to public access and re-designated as military docks.
The Fleet Arcade is still there.
