Thread: Korea 2006

i don't see permission to post anything about Korea here, yet i see China and Japan here. Has someone forgotten about dear Korea? anyway, as i was in the area, i thought i should go to korea and have a gander. i went there mainly to see the filming locations of a well known korean drama called 'jewel in the palace' [Dae Jang Geum]

1st day in Korea.

everywhere i went, there was always busloads of teenagers always too eager to pose in a photo


My fav korean food. Bibimbap. the side dishes are free i suppose cos as soon as the kimchi was gone, it was replaced. Of course, this didnt happen when i found a korean resturant in London and expected the same treatment. the chilli sauce was like tomato and no side dishes 'free'.

i've forgotten myself really, but i do have a LP guide book which i used. i have many other photos, but they're just bore you. what you see here is the best.

Hey, your pics are really good. I am currently teaching in Korea, and recognize most of those places. How long are you in Korea for?

It sure looks like you have been around to many places in Seoul and outside of Seoul as well. I recognize Bulguska temple (Gyeongju), Hwaseong Fortress Wall (Suwon), Gyeongbukong Palace (Seoul).

How long are they filming for? Did you try the silkworm? (gross eh)

i explained how long i was in Korea in the post above yours. And it was 2006 i was there, not still there.

yea i had the silkworm, tasted rank though so i'm glad i had a beer to wash it down with.

glad to see you recognise some of the places in Korea. i was in Suwon on a day trip and walked all around the wall. i met some local men who were getting pissed on korean vodka. they even beckoned me over, but i declined with a smile and a wave.

i thought they were pretty fit. of course, they're not on the thai or filipino level, but seriously better looking than japanese or chinese

Nice pics as all you posted.. but how can you survive whit all that different food..? You must have a super Job travelling .. travelling .. and take some pictures :-)

brought back some nice memories . stayed way down south for a few years . loved it. cheers.

South Korea was my first exposure to SE Asia, company I worked for at the time offered me the opportunity to work on a project in Pohang back in 1988. Back then as a young skint 24 year old married with twin daughters I jumped at the opportunity and have never looked back.

It was during my time on that project when a co-worker introduced me to Thailand, even back then he was living in BKK and married to a Thai lady, and he realised how unhappy I was with married life back in farangland and convinced me to "Cash In" my RnR tickets and spend time in Thailand with him instead. Twenty Two years down the line I am still in SE Asia, I never did make it back to UK, and the "Co-Worker" is still here and I refer to him as Uncle.

I have worked in Korea again in the past few years, Ulsan (Hyundai Ship Yards) in 2005 and Seoul (Samsung Engineering Head Office) 2008 but it was not the same as my first time there. I cannot put my finger on whether Korea has changed or I have become "Asianised" in retrospect it is probably a bit of both, but Korea will always have a special place in my heart as the first Asian country I lived in and the stepping stone to finding Thailand/

I wouldn't call Korea being in SE Asia. E Asia of course but not SE Asia.

Familiarity with Ulsan and the Industrial area in Kumi as well as most of the other parts of the peninsula. Changes there since 1972 have been tremendous and for the better for the country as a whole. Too bad the mentality of the people can not change for the better. More than 17 years resident in Korea and I do miss the cousine. Nang Myun (cold rice noodles) in the summer and Taegutong (spicy fish soup) in the winter and then of course they have all the other great tasting Kor foods.

You are of course correct, I meant to say "Asia"
