    I don't think it's childish.

An ex-colleague of mine lasted four months in Brighton on a PGCE.

He wasn't the idealistic 'quitting' type.

It's ironic isn't it, when UK primary and secondary education is such a a successful brand.

But yes...it's easy to see what one should do...another to do it.

    I concede.

It did seem like you had a real love/hate relationship with Mandalay.

Come up with a budget that you believe that if it is awarded and given one term you can show progress. Indicate what you will be doing, what the outcomes will be and how they will be presented to the children's parents at an end of term "show". If they agree ensure the deal is ongoing for the remaining term of your contract. It will be a win for you, the school, the students and the students parents.

You must have something from Myanmar you can use.

What does your contract say about resources to be made available and quitting your position?

Start tonight and set up a meeting for next week.

There looked to be plenty of sand on that beach.

It may be a case of running your classroom like a football club. Product endorsements may be the way forward. Get the business-owner parents to sponsor classroom improvements and supplies. Plaster their name or brand on what they've bankrolled.

Without meaning to be a Chinese apologist : surely they couldn't be so stingy. I wonder if there is some odd difference due to culture ? Like they don't want to get sand everywhere. You just never know with other cultures....you can't assume your answer is correct. Some woman may be seeing a big mess to clean up...

I've signed up for the PGCEi. Not accepted in places such as Dubai etc but I know people in top international schools in thailand with it. And as I plan on staying in Thailand forever that'll do me.

Good for you Armstrong! Heard good things about it. As for me, looks like I might be headed for Yangon. I voiced my concerns, which I consider to be valid. I'm no longer in employment lol

What? After all this you dont even teach one day? How do you go about getting out of the apartment, and getting out of Quingdao? What a disappointment I would imagine. No new adventure after all. What the heck will the school do about teachers?

Well, the school have lost more than one- the messages I go from the ex teacher were depressing, but I'm glad I head it before the term really started. I'm about 5000USD down. Thankfully plenty of cash saved from Myanmar, so not broke at all. Mostly disappointed about being hoodwinked here under false pretenses and lied to about school facilities.

Will be back in BKK for a bit, looking forward to a cold Leo and putting it behind me. Seething and raging about it is going to accomplish nothing- I know myself well enough to know that I would have blown a gasket under such working conditions in the long run.

Typically China only refunds at the end of the contract, or in the case of housing on a monthly basis. I had to put 6 months down and pay for day to day expenses and some sightseeing.

Sheeit.....did you put it to them that they had misled you and that they owed you money ?

If it was me, I would have only done what I was contracted to do....and/or such a crap job that they fired me.

    Bit of a shame, Mandy...
And you were looking forward to spending some decent time in China.

    Well, live and learn.
Perhaps, all cycles around for the best.

Best to ya towards your next assignment and destination.
    Back to Myanmar? Thailand....?

That's a pisser. Sorry to here about your problems. Do you feel they understood your concerns or were they not interested in listening and backing down to your requests or just different cultures, employer/employee respect?

Understand the possible problems, your employers expectations, your employers understand your expectations and understand the contracted expected deliverables.

    Oh dear.

You obviously worked so hard on that but it's utter drivel, isn't it.

Have you thought of a career in sales?
