    Discovering Shanghai

    Hi Everyone

Along the same lines of Dicky's thread of moving to Japan, I have recently moved to Shanghai, China. I've been discovering my area where I moved on the puxi side. Shanghai is a city of contrasts where you have the pudong area with wide boulevards, highrises and skyscrapers. The puxi side I am discovering has a lot of history and also wild and whacky things.

I'll post pics of things I discover be they odd, beautiful or plain ugly.

Today I was in a Carrefour doing some shopping and passed this near the meat section. Looks like pig faces.

I was very surprised to see this display by the cash at Family Mart (a convenience store). I would never see this in Beijing where I lived for three years.

Lube, condoms, vibrator and looks like a c*ck ring.

Coming down in Pudong airport, you do feel like you will land in the water. I flew into the domestic terminal before, but first time into Pudong airport. A very scary experience.. great views though.

It was very foggy as you can see in the pics!!

^every place has its own beauty & ugliness. I know you hate SH (and China in general - I know your former nic), but if you can't see beauty in a place, then you're a miserable foo*k*er like TheGent. Heh.

@MissT - do carry on with the thread. Post the pics, good or bad. I'm interested and I'm sure others are too. Thanks for setting time aside from your busy sked - we are indeed busy people. Cheers!

Thanks, and I will as I said, but I really had a busy schedule yesterday and wanted to at least start the thread. If people don't like SH like Geezy, then they don't have to look! Ha!

I am really just doing this thread slowly, so bear with me.

Went to a funky bar in Korea town.

Funky chairs.. having a beer with my two new cool cat friend.. !

Nice thread, looks like a vibrant city. Inspired to do an out and about in Mandalay thread- it ain't all golden pagodas and palaces.

Cheers! It is vibrant that's for sure. it's a given that some people may not like it for whatever reasons as bitter Geezy above. I'll post as I discover it. As I'm new I don't have a whole heck of a lot of photos yet. It'd be cool to see your everyday life.

    I'm into it.

Have some friends (both western and Korean) who rant and rave about the place.

Have had some monster blow-outs there and enjoyed every moment.

    ^^Thanks bsnub.
^It certainly is somewhat of a party place.. and I like the mix of people. Many people speak English, including the Chinese. Compared to Beijing, I feel like I'm in paradise. The pollution is way less here than in Beijing.

Have you been here, Jimbo (Hick, sorry). This is Laowei Jie which is foreigner street with loads of different restaurants and bars from a variety of ethnicities. This place has history and goes back to before the war apparently.

I visited Shanghai a few years ago and I took a lot of pics. I was here during Chinese New Year. I can post some of those up.

This is Pudong side of Shanghai with the three highest buildings.
You can take an elevator up the bottle opener (building on the left) as it's called with awesome views (it isn't cheap to go up to see the view). I've been up the Jinmao tower which is the middle building. There is a bar called Cloud 9 on the 87th floor. I went up for a drink with a view.

Looking down the staircase in the middle.

This was the best view I could get from the bar cloud 9, because of the way Jinmao is made there are steel bars obstructing the views.

Many buildings were lit up because of Chinese New Year and as you can see the crowds at these places were huge!

I also visited Jade Buddha Temple which is on the Puxi side of the river. There are two Buddhist Temples in Shanghai. The other one is nearby called Jing'an which I passed on the bus at that time, and hope to visit soon.
