Have not seen a tanooki kept as a pet though they can become accustomed to people and not run away in fright. I've fed them scraps to keep them coming around the house. My friend from Oita built a tanooki "village" behind his house to watch them in the evenings. It was just a bunch of boards and ramps with food and whiskey to lure them. After a couple of years he had so many partying tanookis in his back yard, his family couldn't sleep for the noise.

Ahhh fark! can't get insurance cover activated for my car today

Cover starts from tomorrow... it's 39,000 yen through their website - would need to pay an extra 10,000 yen to get it covered (by phone) today...

My bad for leaving it till the last minute.. was supposed to pick it up at 1 pm today... oh, well... hope my experience helps someone.

Moral of the story, don't leave important stuff to the last minute.. doohhh

My dentist in Japan has an alcohol lamp burning on his work tray. Never have seen that at a dentist in another country. Feels like caveman dentistry.

Yeah show us the real deal sushi train Dickie...

I had whale in Tokyo (only a small one!)

It took a bit time to track down a place that sold it.

Dark brown meat. Kind of like roast beef. With a sliver of blubber on the end.

    Hey Dicksta,

Dunno mate... as long as they forgive me for my sins, it's all good...

Have you tried it (Sushi Train) Terry? I'm sure I saw wee little dolphins shooting past on the conveyor belt... couldn't catch the squealing bastards though...

I visited Hiroshima on August 6th 2001 which was the anniversary of the bomb. Just timing coincidence, not by plan.

I was sitting half asleep outside the station after getting off an overnight train with J-Girl (it would not have been far away from 8.15am coincidentally) and one old jap fella cracked the shits at whitey and came hobbling over shaking his stick and shouting incoherent J-abuse at me.

Seems it is not all forgive and forget!

Very strange experience as the Japs I had met up to that point had been religiously polite and reserved.

^ You were probably sitting with his girl, or taken his seat 55... might, or might not have had anything to do with the A-bomb... perhaps lost in translation ...

Maybe he thought you were Terrible Terry?

^J-Girl gave me a translation and it was an a-bomb related expletive rant.

    Jeez, let bygones be bygones.

I am not even an evil merkin

If you wanna visit Hiroshima don't go on August the 6th, not even by accident.

^ 55 been to Nagasaki, no such weird experience...

Old folk (on both sides) tend to hold grudges...

Moving right along... hope you had an otherwise fantastic trip

Going to look for some 2nd hand appliances/white ware, today... fridge, washing machine, etc... moving into our house on the 19th, so not much time.
