    Cheers bro...

I haven't bought it yet - will rent/settle first... got them down from 100,000 yen to 90,000 yen (per month).. about $1,000 NZ. or $250 per week.
    5 bedrooms 120 m2. 2 car parks... garden for a BBQ...

was a bit more than I anticipated/budgeted, but have been looking for months (even before we arrived) very, very, hard to find a place whereby the landlord allows tenants to conduct a business from the premises...

Especially an Ekaiwa (tutoring school)... had to be near schools, main train station... no local competition, not in the middle of a big city, but not in the jungle either, etc, etc...

Originally looking for a cheaper place.. start small.. apartment or small house.. problem with apartment is noise... kids jumping up and down, music, you get the picture... neighbors would complain.. had to select really carefully...

Figured we have to live somewhere and pay rent... a shit-box apartment is already 60,000 yen... and can't do bizo from there... so better to pay a bit more, get a free standing house... everyone seems to think it's a very reasonable deal.

Hey, if the health business/school doesn't take off.. I can always cook meth....the landlord said I'm free to do any business...

Thanks mate... yeah, not a bad deal...

You guys are just as lucky living in Thailand... I still love the place (for all its faults)...

They both have their pros and cons..

But sorry, I'm not relenting on my disdain for Auckland lol...

I love Thailand simply because I'm cashed up and sail above the bolliks.

If one is on a limited budget or doing it tight it's a shit hole same as all of Asia.

Make sure you have money Richard, rule # 1.

Dicky with your big tv, keep some coin in reserve for a home theatre system to plug into it. I've got a 70 inch TV and the sound that comes out of it is ridiculously bad, no bass at all and tinnie mid range / high end. Fortunately, a decent set of speakers or a sound bar fixes this.

    Thanks for the tip, Headworx.

I definitely will buy some decent speakers/amp - for surround sound... that's a must to pair with the TV... I don't think I'll get a monster TV like you mate...

    Prolly around 46 - 50" will suffice...

I will go for 2nd hand.. as tellies here are proper expensive...

Made me laugh out loud with the way this question is worded.

I'm trying to remember just how the Japanese got involved in the second world war. Oh yea, never mind.

Good read thus far Nz. So you going to change your handle to Nippondick any time soon. You know if you change the order of your teaching acronym to language International it would then read as LiLDiCK.

I'd rather have a lil one than an ill one myself.

Cheers on the thread and anticipate a few picks of the fresh market............................................ ..........fish.

Hey Terry, what do you want for your LG 50. I bought a Toshiba smart TV 32 inch about 18 months ago and it's been in the service center for 2 weeks now and I just got a call last night saying it will be there for another 2 weeks waiting for parts.

I got the extended warranty but it's still going to cost me 800 baht for whatever part it is. It came up with a notice about USB over load or something but there was no USB plugged in at the time and then the remote wouldn't even work.

I just bought a new AirCon the same day I brought in the TV and it's great. I got one of the Samsung Inverter models. Will have to wait before I can afford a new TV.

    Cheers Fish

On the topic of TV's... saw one at Aeon mall today - seemed to be one of the best deals I've seen so far (well, for Japan at any rate)...

    Was a Sony KJ-X8300D 49 incher... 4K HDR...

Missus was all pissy.... wants to save money buy a 2nd hand one... she can't see the difference in quality over a 1080p 2010 40" banger... doohh..

I'm all for saving money... but I think spending $400 on the above 7 year old antique - is more of a waste of money than the new cracker...

    What cha think?

Oh, I learned something new today, apparently "Vizio" (snigger) is the best value for money 4K, HDR, TV, on the market (if you are not a brand snob)...

Not sure if that applies to Japan though... will have to do more research.

These dumb 50 " telli's are worth nothing now and are cheap as chips, if you shop it around you could get one on special for 15 K i recon.

I'll hunt one down for ya if ya want. Let me know.

Do not go any smaller than that Richard, remember big is good and you will be using it everyday.

Pay the extra wedge for a big one.

    Well worth it.

^Listen to Terry for fucks sake Dicky!!. There's a few furniture items where corners can't be cut when decking out a new pad. They would be:
    1. TV
    2. Large and comfortable chair for watching said TV.
    3. Work Bench (aka Bed).

^ See.. us men (and Fish ) think differently than the fairer sex - especially on matter of electronics i.e. TV and audio equipment...

I see it as an investment... if a 50" 4K telly was $10k, that would be another kettle of fish... but it's only $1,350 (ish)... compared to 2nd hand shitter around $600... not worth the savings...

It's not like the new 4k telly is only twice as good... it's fooking 20 times as good FFS... just try telling my 4 eyed, blind missus that... she needs a good smack, I reckon...55

I was at an Industry show at BangNa today Richard and they were selling Smart 4k UHD 55" Curved Samsung TV's for 25000 Baht.

    2017 model # MU 6300. Show Specials.

Google that fooker up and weep.

I was a Micky hair away from buying one and offing the 50 " LG over me Balcony.

Awesome picture quality on these Telli's but ya need that 4K input.

I have a Samsung curved 65" smart TV, one of my best ever purchases, they do say though if want a curved TV you need a minimum of 65" to get the full benefit. Bought mine December last year going from memory think was somewhere in the 1200-1400 range but I believe cheaper now.

^ Yeah, $1k NZ, is a nice, even (and easy to swallow) number - for a telly...

Don't like 'em curved though... except the 55" curved number between me legs.. heh..

    Recons its bonza actually.

For 25 K Richard ya would not give a fook if it was curved, upside down, inside out or fookin broken.

    Cracking picture buy the way.
