In the evening the was the Motomiya festival at the Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine
You should sell postcards Bob
The Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine is famous for the thousands of Torii Gates that lead up the hill at the back of the shrine.
There are hundreds of iconic photos of the gates that I wanted to take.... but why? It's been done before.... prior to the trip I thought of various shots I could try to get something new... but..... the place was heaving and there was no chance of composing the shots I wanted, the use of a tripod was out in terms of what I had planned so I decided to wing it and take shots that portrayed how busy it was whilst letting the reds bleed all over the shot....
I went back again the next day and again it was very bust and quite different in day light....
Again the inside passages of the gates were very very busy and I had limited time so I went with an idea I'd had to look at the gates from outside.
The Bamboo Grove at Arashiyama...... I rejected this shot at first because it had people in it.... I have a clean one as well... but I realised when looking at it when doing full processing that the way they were caught in the light made it a far far more interesting shot....
Once again,fantastic photos.
Beautiful.
I think you've outdone yourself BobC !
Outstanding, and I love the alternative ideas - they really convey the moment.
