I am very slowly settling in here very near to San Kamphaeng, it feels quite nippy in the mornings up here compared to Pattaya, had to go and find socks stored away for more than 6 years.

The Wife have been up here the last two weekends supervising the movers etc. but will first join me full time after new year because of job demands, that leaves me more time to go exploring a bit for a few weeks.

Anyway eventually I will on occasion be roaming the "streets" of Chiang Mai and area and thought it prudent to give fair warning

I was lucky to have an International job, back in the day... Always made meetings on Fridays or Mondays, so that I could spend the weekend getting pissed at the company's expense; as you do...

Had a great time in Helsinki one friday night, then got on the ferry to Talin in the morning - turned out to be the annual festival, so I got proper drunk (you and Stoker would've been proud of me), made it back to Helsinki for the Monday meetings...

Copenhagen was always really expensive to get drunk; I used to go to visit friends, and it'd wreck me financially (not company related, I had to pay... ) - Sweden was even more expensive and Norway more expensive still (but I always went there on company time.)

Bergen is one of the most undersung places in Europe for a long weekend on the piss - great food (fishing town), beer (expensive), women (university town...), pubs, clubs and scenery...

Been to Bergen, Lars/Slaps? Nicer than CM, but bloody pricey. CM is very nice though; can't think of anywhere better in Thailand.

The question I have is "with LT not there to keep an eye on you and out of trouble, who now has that dubious honor? or was it you keeping an eye on LT? either way, someone has got to do the minding". Hoping to get up to CM again sometime soon. Possibly upon return from CONUS the bride and I will take a trip up to check out the new diggs. and don't worry, in your absence and when I'm in town down in this neck of the woods with LT, I'll attempt to shame LT into getting home at a reasonable hour...

Worst air quality in all of Thailand.

Not only the smoke, but the highest ozone level in Thailand, too.
Combined under the action of UV light, the mix is a carcinogen.

EVERY ONE in Chiangmai develops a cough.

Respiratory failure is the leading cause of death in CM province.
Lamphun the main high incidence area, downwind from Lampang chemical factories and pollution.
The mix is lethal.

Apart from that, Chiangmai is lovely.


Some locals blamed farang for bringing the pi of cough to their place. My Thai "aunty" blamed me. She'd shuffle off to the market to get herbs for her cough and angrily pound the stuff while muttering and glaring at me.

The "cure" didn't do much good though, she still lunged up like a trooper in the mornings and at night.

I had a room across the hall from her, so we'd spy on each other, me to make sure she wasn't dying, and that no one was spying on me. She to make sure I wasn't up to no good with a new gik.
