WE-TV Chiang Mai says 8 August will have 200channel digital Cable TV

    Hi.

Wetv sent out a letter today.

It seems to say that they will introduce a digital network in addition to there current analog offering. It says it will have 200 channels and requires a 300baht (deposit?) for the digital box.

The go live date is 8th of August.

Anyone have any more info ?

I have sent an email ... sounds interesting but will it have any decent content ?

    Mark

I went down to WETV to sign up/pay last week - not expecting much of interest but thinking a one-off 300Bt is no big deal. The girl in their reception seemed surprised I'd be interested - the additional 140-ish channels will likely be (she thought but didn't seem sure) all Thai/non-English language. She mentioned pop channels and "maybe" movie channels - which she thought "maybe" would all be Thai-language.

The gist of it all was WETV will write again to subscribers with details of what the channels ("maybe") are and that it was best to wait until then.

    BTW, it's 300Bt per TV/connection

I use WETV at the moment; poor signal and content but cheap and easy

it can be piped to lots of rooms for an additional set-up fee, but no monthly extra

Well, I eventually received the follow-on mailing - with a long list of channels. From what I can see, nearly all are Thai-language only and look (to me) to be as interesting as video wallpaper - shopping channels, more pop, some religious, some local/regional (Esan & Bkk etc) and - amazingly - "Somaliland National Television Channel"..... I also spotted a Vietnamese and a Korean channel.

My take is that WETV have scraped together a ragbag of feeds from all over the place - what can one expect for a zero subscription fee? Being digital, maybe the picture quality is better - but a poor digital signal usually means a completely garbled transmission rather than poor quality as with analog.

there is nothing wrong with the digital signal, it is the quality of the pictures sent that is the problem

some of the channels they receive/send are very poor, probably analog
