    Chiang Mai Restaurant Recommendations

    The Good Lady and myself are off to Chiang Mai for 3 or 4 days over Songkran and whilst the street level is our usual grazing ground I'd like to take her out for a good feed on the upper deck. We're not familiar with the town except for brief visits so some pointers would be appreciated from them that know.;
We spend most of our time around the South so seafood isn't really on the wish list. Farang of some description or classic Thai perhaps but somewhere with a certain je ne sais quoi...

Chinese Thai - "One baht" restaurant on the walking street road, fairly basic set-up but good food, opposite the Writers wine bar

    which is nice enough too

excellent French at reasonable prices, Marco's in Loy Kroh road, near the girlie bars

Riverside, which is funnily enough at the side of the river, is a great little place with excellent Thai food at very reasonable prices and a lovely setting.

Good View next door seemed very popular as well although I haven't ate there but we did have a few drinks.

Both worth a visit and have live music on.

Pulcinella da Stefano is also a very nice little Italian not far from Tha Pae Gate next to the bookshops.

I like the Good View too, but I haven't eaten there. everybody else seemed to enjoy the food though.

I like the Monkey Club. It might be Monkey "bar" or something similar. Went there a few years ago and sat in the garden to have food and then into the club later.

Had a few nice meals in the Irish Pub as well.

Agree that Riverside and Good View restaurants are enjoyable restaurants. Always had a good meal and service as well as a good time at those 2 locations.

Graym, if your looking for the upper deck and a "jolly rogering" night out , I'd try the Whole Earth restaurant (vegetarian / Indian cuisine) and treat her to a night staying at the Yaang Come Village hotel.
Wine and food - Tb 1k
YCV standard room Tb2,500 deluxe Tb3,500 - walk in Thai price
    ~THE WHOLE EARTH~
Restaurant and hotel are next to each other and just 5 min walk to the night markets .

Worked and still works for me

GoodView - Nice place and good food. Best to try and book a table next to the river for the views. Can be a bit noisy if seated too close to the band.
Bogon Tip #289. Order an Irish Coffee. The waitress wheels a trolley over with all the ingredients and makes it infront of you in a very snazzy way!

Riverside - Just to the left of GoodView. In my opinion the food and dining atmosphere is not as good. I normally go here after eating at GoodView to listen to the live bands who shake the wooden floorboards when jamming.

Brassereie - Went once and can't remember too much about it. I think it had a very limited menu, but don't quote me on that.
    Black diamonds? I shit 'em.

Riverside has moved away from the river side to the opposite side of the road, more than two years ago

both those are OK, a bit pricey but if you book a table with a nice view at Goodview, can be fine

    Pulcinella is a bit grubby

I found the Riverside to be cheaper than Good View with a larger menu but both nice places. If you're going to the Riverside it's jam packed around 9pm-ish. A few times I'd gone there and couldn't get a table, went next door instead.

Tara Bar is good too, it's the opposite direction down the river. They also have live music and tasty food.
and he just stands there, waiting for me to drive my truck straight through him, with LIGHT coming out of his mouth!

The Dukes pizza is possibly the best I had in CM.

Been to the one across the road a couple of times. Looks nice, but feels a bit small inside (as in they pack the tables very close to each other) and if you wanna eat outside, it's next to the busy carpark.

Did you really suggest that graym should take his missus to Mike's Burgers!
Admittedly it is a very handy place after midnight when you wanna get some grease inside you before watching the punch-ups in Spicy.

    The Riverside.

They also do (or did) a riverboat dinner for a few hundred baht extra.

Chez Marco on Soi Whore is nice and he's a top lad.

The mrs loves Ginger Restaurant at The House. We had lunch there recently, not cheap but worth it on our opinion. Great food and a cool setting The House Restaurant, Chiang Mai

We also liked The Riverside, not as expensive as Ginger, but loud and very busy.
