Latest TV options in Chiang Mai - Mae Rim

In the city, there seem to be several options for getting TV programmes

UBC, True, WETV, Dynasat, and a couple of others

We have cable from WETV and it is cheap and Ok

We now want to get TV in Mae Rim, where WETV is not an option. Dynasat is useless, as the codes keep changing daily. There is a new box which updates them automatically, but you need an internet connection, and that is also not an option in the ricefields.

True is a possible, but is expensive if you want BBC etc. The basic package at B490pm only gives you a few local channels plus a bit extra.

SO, what are your recommendations; I would prefer a one-off payment rather than monthly fees but....
    I have reported your post

There's loads of packages from free-to-air sat companies. This site shows what's available and what equipment you need. Then you just need to find a local company who will sort it out for you.

You can legally purchase the dream network now for around $400us . This price gives you the receiver and card good for one year (no Key changing) and is available from taiwansat.com the price includes the shipping to Thailand and comes ready to plug and play

sounds a reasonable deal BG, BUT are you sure that they will not start changing the codes as the Aguila (Dream) satellite did?

oh yes, what size dish do they use?

quarenteed for a year and next year I have to get another card, at least thats what I understand.
And it is a 5.5 foot fixed dish. and I moved it from CM to Phetchabun and had a sat man that set up my wife sat system set it up here, and I think he hit the sat better here that in CM.

Not really Ben, the guy knows as little as me, and no useful replies

thanks BG, I will find out more

JSAT do several packages of varying prices, some free to view, others subscription card. I am trying to understand their satellite info, which channels you get etc

OK I called the company Blackgang recommended, they were not very helpful on the phone; they actually passed us around five different people. The last one was pretty useless anyway

so we contacted the Dynasat guy who said he could use the equipment we have, and we just needed to buy a new head for the dish. He came over, removed all the gear and set it up in our house in Mae Rim. The satellite gives us 16 channels, incl. BBC, free, plus the local Thai stuff from a resituated aerial.

so that seems good for now

Not living in my house in C.M. presently and probably not for 6+ years but I would like to get my dynasat system re-worked so that it is usuable for any possible renters of my house. Of the 3 tiers that dynasat offered me 4 years ago, I bought the most expensive at 22,000 baht. When aguilla changed their scrambling methods, I quit using the satillite, as I was leaving LOS in 6 months. Last March, I came back for a week and brought back a Dreambox 2070 that I bought on Ebay. The man that runs jsat out of Bangkok programed the box but said to contact a local company in C.M., as he doesn't service C.M. That's where I left it, needing a company to supply a card for the Dreambox amd do any necessary adjustments to my dynasat system. My house is near Bosang and I might be able to get an internet connection but that would depend on the renter and their paying for it. I don't want to deal with someone that doesn't speak a decent amount of English, as the person that originally put in the dynasat system in my house dealt with my Thai friend and promised a year's free service, including changing the codes when necessary. Towards the end of the year, it was getting difficult to get him over and after the year was up, impossible. Any advise/recommendations?

Where's the best place to go in Chiang Mai for personal, face-to-face info (if such a thing exists) on sat TV systems? I'm not very knowledgeable on the subject (Know bugger all) and would probably sell my soul just to be able to tell True Visions where to shove it!!

There are a few good guys in CM, Micky

I don't have the contact numbers here, sorry

this is from another thread, so I am not sure still current

Chiang Mai Technical engineering co. Ltd.
    053-110777-9 053-110801-2 085-0378258

    MAZZ- South African sat.

20,000 installed and no cost card or no monthly, I have since moved to Phetchabun and had a sat man here install and tune it for me here and that was 2000 with a new mounting frame work built.
however, the best option is to get a satellite set-up and you will need a good internet connection

together you can access lots of satellites free, except you will have to pay the provider a few baht a month for updating your codes via the net

there have been several threads on this subject before

Thanks for the responses guys, i appreciate it very much. It seems from what you are saying that if i subscribe to one of the True packages I can have this at home as well? Is that correct?

I think Ocker will deny even knowing what cricket is if he's a real Aussie.

Is there a bar that show the footy, mate?
