    Uber in Chiang Mai

Fucking brilliant. Less than half of the cost of Tuk Tuks or off-route Songthaews.

There are 200+ drivers in CM now, and they mostly appear to be women.

You order the car, watch it coming on a map, get in, go to your destination, get out.

No fumbling with notes, no tipping and the longest I had to wait was six minutes.

There is a big board at Central Airport listing the fees, and the tuk tuk drivers just laughed and told me "No it's 150 baht".

So I said "Fuck you, No wonder everyone uses Uber" and walked off to them begging me to come back and pay the Bt100 that was on the board.

Took three minutes to get a car and cost me Bt67.

    I'd recommend it to anyone.

If you want to use Grab it's a bit more pricey, but you can book them for a particular time, e.g. if you want to go to the Airport.

Spread the word and let's put the crooks out of business!

    Well I don't think they're hookers if that's what you're asking.

Just ordinary Thais. Some single, some married.

You can pay by cash in Thailand.

Weren't you talking about your first class plane tickets the other week?

Must take a while to accrue at 67 baht a bash on your credit card

What car were you picked up in for that amount? i used them once in Bangkok after waiting an age for a taxi, the 3 of us got picked up in a Suzuki Swift

The most common car appears to be a Vios.

I don't know if Uber have a frequent rider scheme so I can't help you there.

But on principle I'd rather pay 67 baht to ride in a Vios than 150 to lurch around in some belching tuk tuk just because the drivers sit on their arses all day and see farangs as an easy mark.

Eventually it's going to cause a large protest from Tuk Tuk drivers once it affects their trade, just like London taxis are trying to get rid of Über

    Good to know they're here.
We have guests waiting for lazy songtheaw or tuk-tuk drivers to turn up, when they feel like it, then they up the price and rude as fwk,....high season blackmail.

I'll get the missus onto that in the morning.

Nope, not asking if they were hookers at all.

    They tried protesting in Bangkok.

    And failed.

Uber is now the world's biggest taxi company, and they don't even own any taxis.

It's called competition. Let the lazy robbing fuckers up their game or they can just fuck off.

I hope there's loads of Uber cars in Phuket.

Really? Anybody know if this has happened? Or going to happen? Bloody violent monopoly there.

Uber is a curse in the U.K.
Unlike Thailand Uber is curse in the U.K. For the reasons that unlike Thailand it is only Thais that drive for Uber app.
Not in the U.K. Uber is a means for third world dross to come invade soft Pommie land and claim working tax credits ( welfare) plus driving Uber car.
No need for English or knowing your way around, sat nav shows you way.
    Uber is good for Thailand.
Uber is a parasitic curse in the first world.

Those bastards. I will be glad to see the end of the red songtheaw mob and their hold over public transportation in Chiang Mai.

I think that the Mayor owns a significant number so the end result may be a good tussle.
