4th of July 2015 on the River

Hey you Chiang Meisters, let's all celebrate my birthday!!! (btw, i excuse only Thais, if you're unaware of the significance of this date) It's party time at the Riverside Market Restaurant, Saturday, July 4th, between 3 PM and Midnight. 1200 THB (600 THB for the kiddies) gets you a BBQ buffet and 4 domestic beers or soft drinks or 2 wines or 2 imported beers. Budweiser and American craft beers will be on tap. Can wait to see what that might mean. Been years since I've had my Pyramid Apricot Ale. Still (pun intended), you know, the Eurobeers here are great, too. The Riverside Market is located on the Night Bazaar side of the river near the Old Iron Bridge. This terminology was new to me so I got a Google map: https://www.google.co.th/maps/place/...74b28537?hl=en. As you can see, looks like it's right there on Loi Kroh Road, backpackers!!!

So, OK, tickets can purchased at the door or beforehand at the following locations:

    The Duke's
    Mae Ping
    053-249231

    The Duke's
    Night Bazaar
    053-0818603

    The River Market
    053-234493

    RAGU
    Promenada
    053-142665

Lastly, I've never been there so would like impressions of the venue. Plenty of other places to hop, skip and jump to later on anyways, after trying those American craft brews. If you truly are ignorant as to the high quality of American craft beer these days (can't speak to their choices, obviously), I'll buy!

I do miss celebrating with the merkins in Germany, duing the cold war. I know Aussies are well known for their BBQ style but the Yanks away from home know how to party too. All that food and drink at commissary prices. What's not to like. Have a good one Mr Blaney and any others planning a party for 4 July.

Is this the thread where I get to remind our colonial cousins that their vaunted Declaration of Independence was written by Brits or should I save it for an official July 4 thread?

Anyway, Many Happy Returns of the Day WJB, and I wish you many more to come!

1200 sounds to me pretty damned expensive for a bit of BBQ and a couple of beers.

^ Not bad for a Chiang Mai farang holiday bash. River Market/Duke's puts out a good spread.

^ Thanks for the update on that, misskit. Do they have any other kind of entertainment--music, sports TV?

You don't know much about Chiang Mai if you think backpackers go to Loi Kroh.

^ You are missing your party.

Those backpackers hang out on top end of Loi Kroh. The moat end, not so much.

That looks like a contradiction. What's the difference between the top end of Loi Kroh and the moat end? You mean the river end? BTW, I'm not all that interested in stuffing myself on red meat, potato salad, french fries, hamburgers, baked beans and ice cream. Are you down there?

I'm calling the top end of Loy Kroh the area at the Night Bazar and the moat end...well, ends at the moat. The girly bar end. Guess there are backpackers there too.

    Nope. Not there today.

It was only a minor criticism, so you shouldn't want me to do that.

OK, I'll accept your implied definition of "minor criticism" and not see it as an apology.

Most Loi Kroh drinks prices are more than your average backpacker will pay.

But I can still fill you in if you want me to.

Your first sentence filled me in as much as I care to be filled in about where backpackers hangout.

And since the truth is I don't know much about Chiang Mai, I'm just sorry you felt the need to be sarcastic about it.
