St Peter's Eye Hospital, near the superhighway not far from Lotus Kamthieng. Some relatives of mine had lasik there and were very happy. Be aware that the advertised price is for farang & Chinese health tourists and that if you live locally it costs far less.

I have a friend that got lasik eye surgery in Thailand. They never bothered to ask him if he was a diabetic or test his blood sugar levels. He now suffers from severe dry eye syndrome and can't drive at night anymore. Just a word of caution.

I've had both eyes done for cataracts in Rutnin hospital Bangkok cost was about 60000 baht but the cost is irrelevant, it's your eyes, got to get it done right, rut in do. Nothing else, just eyes and I believe they are the best in Thailand, mate of mine had cataract surgery in AEK udon Thani, he is an old bloke and it damn near killed him when under the a atheistic,he woke up with tubes down his throat, scared the fuk out of my old mate, after the op 2weeks later his vision was worse than before the operation, the doc recommended some laser treatment, The result? I'm also considering the procedure and I went to St. Peter's today. If I understood the girl at the info desk correctly, they are not doing Lasik procedures at this time as they are waiting for new equipment. Otherwise they will do a Prelex procedure which is basically a cataract surgery and fitting a corrective lens. Cost quoted 95,500B per eye but I did not mention I am a resident. I have heard also about a Lasr Eye Centre at Suon Dok Hospital. I'll check it out also.

as cataracts are normally done with local anaesthetic, that seems rather strange

As I am now in Canada working, I decided to get a full vision check and see about Lasik here. After a very professional vision check I was told I'd not be a suitable candidate. I'm 20/40 left eye, 20/200 right eye. I have an early stage cataract in my left and am right eye dominant. It was suggested I wait 5 years and wait for the cataract to develop ( and possibly in the right eye) and then get vision corrective lens replacements. Cataract surgery is covered under health care. And so I'm wondering if i would have received the same advice in Thailand, or would it be more a case of 'mai penrai, it ok, we do surgery tomorrow, pay here'. I'd be very, very careful.
