I'm not really into men in speedos along Loi Kroh to be honest.

Weizen Bier, the worst feckin hangover I have ever had... Well maybe it was not just the bier could have been the 10 shots of ratsopusse and the apfelkorn which went along with it.

    Try this place Mr Mao.

I'm rather biased in my review since this was the one place that gave me regular retreat from my 6 month wandering in Thailand's beer wasteland. The brewmaster also covered my tabs just because I was the first American he met who knew the difference between a lager and an ale. If you find yourself suffering a "Changover" in Northern Thailand be sure to pay a visit here.

Hidden behind the Carrefour supermarket on Asia Highway 1, and with no signs on the highway, this place has to rely on word-of-mouth to make business. Quite a shame because they make a far better beer than any other brewery in Thailand (Thai or otherwise). The brewmaster has explained that the lack of publicity is due to Chang Beer and Singha Beer's shady connections. Apparently the large brewers hand money to the government to write rules that prevent smaller breweries from expanding. There's Mafia involvement, but that's typical with Thai government. Just ask the police...

The brewery offers Weizen Bier, Helles Bier, Dunkel, Weizen Bock, and a seasonal Oktoberfest. They all are light, clean, fruity, and highly carbonated. The ingredients, including Cara Munchener and Saur, are imported from Germany. The brewmaster intentionally makes the alcohol content higher as he says it is more towards Thai taste. Not a fault. Just be sure to take a 'tuk-tuk' back home. Anything here is better than Thai beer, but the best of the bunch would be the Lager. I pushed the limits of "sessionable" with this one.

All beers are served in 0.3, 0.5, and full Liter glasses. You can also order the beer towers which are a Thai phenomenon that has to be seen. Order your beers early, since the prices increase every 2 hours (clever). The place is rarely busy even on weekends, so ordering isn't a problem. The waiters do have a habit of disappearing sometimes.

The food is hit and miss German/Thai cusine and too pricy for the quality (not if you're just a tourist). There's entertaniment nightly on the large stage. Acoustics are impressive due the the building being modeled after the classic cavernous German beerhalls. The band performs modern and traditional Thai songs. They also sing English language hits...if you can't take the singing, just focus on the dancing girls on stage. Or drink on the porch.

I drove 2 hours every weekend just to visit this spot, so clearly I didn't have much to complain about. The beer is good, the staff is friendly, and there's always entertainment (not always on stage). Cheers!/Chok-dee!

Killkeney and Guinness on draught at UN Irish pub, Ratchawithi Rd Chiangmai.
Several other good brands of bottled beers in the cooler, good wines available.

It's a farang style pub and if you need a break from Thai food, it's the best place I know for good bacon sausage and beans or most typically British food, good ambience and staff as well as owners and regular entertainment, music and quizzes etc.

A bit of home away from home for the homesick, read the paper, watch sports on big screens or sit out in the courtyard flirting with the girls. Never any hassles there. Decent prices, eg. real bacon, sausage and eggs breakfast for Bht 150
They've a decent bakery too, so you can buy a wide range of breads, not sweet Thai style stuff, good bread.

Several TD posters hang out there spying on each other!!

    You still in town CMao?

The Blues Bar atop the Kalare market in the night baazaar has beer laos - dark and draught.

I usually sip on a Leo at Blue Sky, best pub in CM imo.
