About Samut Songkhram

Samut Songkhram is the province of fertile land, of plants and food grains, the production source of vegetables and fruits, as well as a vast variety of seafood products. It is also an interesting historical source for the early Rattanakosin period.Samut Songkhram is an ancient province with a long history. Originally, it is believed that this province was once a part of Ratchaburi province, and called Suan Nork at that time. Then, towards the end of the Ayutthaya period going on to the Thonburi period, it was separated from Ratchaburi province and was called Mueang Mae Klong.Reference: Tourism Authority of Thailand

Talad Nam Tha Kha

The Tha Kha floating market or ‘Talad Nam Tha Kha’ takes place on the 2nd, 7th, 12th days of both the waxing and waning moon of the lunar calendar, open between 6.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. Visitors can enjoy a cozy atmosphere with coconut and fruit orchard along the canal since 7.00a.m.

Bang Kung Camp

There is the Ubosot (ordination hall) commonly called as ‘Bot Prok Pho’ which was built in the Ayutthaya period. The hall is covered by four species of ficus plants: Pho (Bodhi), Sai, Krai, and Krang. ‘Bot Prok Pho’ A wall was built to make Wat Bang Kung be in the middle of the camp as a spirit centre for soldiers.

Wat Bang Khae Noi

Wat Bang Khae Noi is located in Tambon Khwae Om , Amphoe Amphawa, Samut songkhram province. The beautiful and explicit design was made by skilled woodcraftsmen from Phetchaburi province where woodcarving is famous. Therefore, Wat bang Khae Noi is the place that remains the beautiful arts and culture and it is a new tourist attraction of Samut Songkharm province.

Wat Chaleornsukharam

This temple is originally called ‘ Wat Phatunam Bangnokkwake’. Then it was renamed to ‘Wat Chareornsukharam. It was a third class royal monastery in 1957. There is Luang Pho Toa Buddha image, which is highly revered by people, it is enshrined in the main building (Ubosot). In front of the temple, there is Fish Park that has various kinds of fish in the stream, especially silver and red-tail tinfoil barbs. Visitors can enjoy feeding the fish and outdoor activity such as canoeing.

King Rama II Memorial Park

This park was built under the project to honour King Rama II, run by the King Rama II Phraboromrachanusorn Foundation under royal patronage. It is built to commemorate his great patron to the arts and culture, which become a national heritage. It was established to be Science and Culture organisation from UNESCO.

Wat Amphawan Jetiyaram

At present it is a second class royal monastery which is located at the north of Amphawan canal, originally called ‘Wat Amphawan’. Later, King Rama III rename as ‘Wat Amphawan Chetiyaram’ that means the temple that has a worship pagoda and a cozy mango orchard. It was constructed by Princess Phrarubsirisopharkmahanaknari (San), the mother of Queen Amarintharamat (Nak) and renovated by King Rama III and manusoleum of King Rama II .

Amphawa Yamyen Floating Market

Located at the former original floating market where stopped for more 10 years. Luckily, the Municipality of Ampawa District joined with local people to revive the life of floating market back. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 16.00 - 20.00,all locals sails small boats to sell food and products which made from local stuffs. Not just the feeling of local market, the shophouses along the bank of canal are original and made back to the old time.



Don Hoi Lot

Don Hoi Lot is a bar at the mouth of the Mae Klong River, created by sedimentation of sandy soil or Khee Ped Sand as called by the locals. It occupies a vast area 3 Kilometres wide and 5 Kilometres long. This bar contains various species of mollusc such as Hoi Lai, Hoi Puk (Ridged Venus clam), Hoi Pak Ped, Hoi Khraeng (scallop), and most abundant is the of Hoi Lot (worm shells) There is the Shrine of Prince Chumphon Khet-udomsak which is highly revered by all Thais. There are also restaurants and stalls selling a vast variety of local products such as fresh-dried worm shell, fresh-dried seafood, fish sauce, Khlong Khon shrimp paste, palm sugar, and palm juice, and many others.

Fireflies Boat Trip

The famous fireflies of Samut Songkhram is very popular actraction at night. Some people refer to this memorable experiance as the Asian Christmas Tree. The fireflies can only survive and have a life circle around the clean river and Lampoo trees. Amphawa is still the place where you can experience their wonderful lives. It is a romantic activity which the couples can join to see the fireflies at night together.
The best time to go is 7:00PM - 8:00PM especially on warning moon period.
