15,000baht a month is one hell of a life insurance policy, think my girlfriend pays 500baht per month and it pays out just under a million, she's 40 odd.

Traditionally karaoke bars in Thailand are for Thai males to pay to have sex etc.

Not all karaoke or cafe workers are prostitutes, not by a long way.

I would keep her out of all the bars Sire.

Anywhere alcohol is involved there will be fornication

what is the worst that can happen? If it turns out she is still a working girl better you find out now than later.

This is not a troll answer; see a good professional counselor and bring a copy of this posting with you. You're throwing your life and money away on something that is not worth it. Yes, I give money to bar girls and prostitures but I understand the difference between being loved and being treated as a valued customer.

This is not meant to be disrespectful, however, do the math. You live in one country, she lives in another. You have no idea what she is doing there, other than what she tells you. You already send her a lot of money, and she wants more. The threat of 'going back to work' is hanging over your head. Who's to say she's not working already? You serve as an invisible ATM. You send, she spends. You send more, she spends more. In over twenty years in Thailand and the Philippines, I have seen this scenario played out hundreds of times. It never ends well for the foreigner. In fact, it only ends one way - when you accept the fact that you are nurturing a fantasy, and stop the cash flow. Above said, all the best to you.

Why not just send her even more of your money? Very difficult living on 13,000 a month in Nakhon Nayok

This is but one level of sophistication up from the Ox and the vet bills!

The only advice I can offer is:
    1) either you move to Thailand or you move her to Oz
Your life will be total mysery if you spend every waking hour wondering what she is doing - not worth the stress my friend !

    2) get a private investigator but I think most TD'ers would agree that's Game Over

^ I was serious re beneficiary, and I'd guess unlikely to be husband.
My partner has an insurance policy - pay in for 20 years and get a cash payout if living, or in event of death payout to beneficiary - in her case her sister who would take care of children/education.
Her mother has a a similar one that pays out in 2 years (unless an 'accident' meantime!)

^I suspect the poster meant her Thai husband, not the Aussie ATM.

    Psychology of wanting life insurance

There must be some interesting psychology behind the reason so many lower income and lower educated people spend money they cannot afford on nothing more than a fancy looking piece of paper with their name on it.
Maybe it makes them feel important somehow or part of the elite chic society? You hear of so many bargirls who want insurance, even when they have no children.

^In 20 years around bars and bargirls, I can't say I've ever seen the life insurance deal. Health insurance, yes - and that makes perfectly good sense. But I have rarely, if ever, run into a girl who had, or wanted, life insurance. Way too much of a deferred reward, and the money doesn't go to them. Doesn't compute in their calculator minds.

My gf got her policy when working for a life assurance company - subsidised as part of the salary/employment deal, and continued payments when she changed employer.
It's not something I have ever heard talked about elsewhere so don't know how common it is; but then again it's not something that would come up in ordinary conversation - and I don't talk about my own finances either.

It is pretty common out in the sticks and my wife holds the life insurance on a couple of older members of the family, will cover the big three day piss up when they are dead
