    Lopburi suggestions needed

We will be going to Lopburi in a couple of weeks and wondered if any of you are from there and what there is to do. All I know is that there are monkeys there!

    Any farang restaurants?

Any Thai restaurants that are good?

What are the must see temples and other sites?

What are the sites that i do not want to waste my time visiting?

    What lodging do you recommend?

This is the place that a Thai recommended me. Lopburi Residence.

    www.lopburiresidence.com

    Anyone been there before?

600 to 1200 baht a night. It says the only difference is that the expensive room has a bathtub and a mini bar.

Never stayed at the Lopburi Residence. I always stay at the Lopburi Inn Resort and find it quite good.

    Rooms & Rate

Be careful there is a Lopburi Inn and it sucks!

Lopburi is best described as a good place to see monkeys in the streets and go to the sunflower festival in early Dec. Hope you like nasty thieving monkeys!

Sounds reasonable priced, that Lopburi Inn Resort:
Accomodation in Lopburi Inn Resort Hotel Thailand, Booking of Hotel Lopburi Inn Resort

    Just 1,020 baht.

beware the monkeys. those things are evil incarnate. we got surrounded by a pack of them and i had nothing to fend them off with but a backpack.

i can't remember the name of my hotel but i did eat at a restaurant called the white house, or something like that. the manager tried to do a hard sell on getting me to go to the temple with the mummies. when i declined, he sent a very long-in-the-tooth working girl over to sit at my table. she told me she was "ting-tong" and had problems because she drank too much. throughout our extended conversation, she was waving around a glass of whiskey. a wonderful dinner companion, as you can imagine.

the ruins are nice but you can mostly see those in a day. if you're going to be there for more than a day than i would suggest trying to get out to that temple. those i know who've been said it was well worth the trip. wish i'd done it, in hindsight, as i don't know when i'll get up that way again.

When I lived in Navanakorn in the early 90s I used to get up to Lopburi occasionally. I used to stay at an el cheapo Chinese-style hotel across the road from the old palace. I think it was called the Asia Lopburi Hotel [at] 150 baht per night. There was a restaurant around the corner which did a phad-thai that is the best I have ever eaten. They made their own fresh noodles daily.

I disagree. I enjoyed the old ruins and the museum was not too bad. Certainly better than many here.
