    Sat 22 - 'Marjoe' documentary from 1972

This Sat 22nd March will be a showing of the 1972 Academy Award winning documentary Marjoe. Its a private group but you are all invited.

Marjoe was an Evangelical 'fire and brimstone' preacher in the Bible circuits of America, since the age of 4. His parents trained him up and sold him on the circuit for cash. Later he returned to the same trade he knew as a child to earn money - only he did not beleive in it. People claimed to find God through him, and even be healed, but Marjoe maintains all he provided was entertainment. Eventually he invited a film crew to 'expose' him, resulting in the documentary.

    Details are at: littlebang

This is well worth seeing if you have not seen it before. Raises a lot of questions.... Will be at the Tai Pan Hotel, Sukhumvit 23,

Downloaded this movie recently but haven't watched it. It looks very interesting.

Followed the link provided: "The Little Bangkok Sangha aims to keep up to date information on Dhamma events around Bangkok."

OK, that's nice. However, a buddhist group hosting a movie that documents the excesses of the Christian fringe is a little off-putting somehow.

I can just imagine a bunch of self-satisfied recent converts sitting around congratulating themselves on their new exotic belief system (don't call it a religion, they don't like that). There seems to be a type that falls for this malarkey in a big way.

I hope I never meet the people in his imagination.

He has not given interviews about his 'preacher' days since the early 80's . He has run a successful event promotion buisness drawing celebrities in to mostly sporting events, including no small amount of charity work. He also had a moderately successful film career.

Yeah I hope so too Jack. I fucking hate pretentious buddhist windbags.

What kinda questions do you reckon the film raises?
