Land oil fields discovered in Phetchabun province

Land oil fields discovered in Phetchabun province
    18 November

The Department of Mineral Fuels (DMF) reports that oil fields have been discovered in Phetchabun province; moreover, the fields can produce 5,000 barrels of crude oil per day. In this regard, DMF is expediting their approval to initiate its 20th contract bidding process.

The Director General of the Department of Mineral Fuels, Mr. Krairit Nilkuha (ไกรฤทธิ์ นิลคูหา), revealed that the land oil fields in Nasanun (นาสนุ่น) area have been found by a Canadian company ‘Pan Orient Ltd,' which has rights to produce petroleum and is currently positioned in Wichain Buri district (วิเชียรบุรี) in Phetchabun province.

The discovery will will alleviate the oil crisis in Thailand as the kingdom will be able to produce more crude oil in compliance with the market's demand. It will also help reduce cost of oil imports.

so what does 5,000 barels / day equate to ?

is this really going to alleviate the oil crisis in Thailand ??

^ I have my doubts 5,000 barrels a day will amount to much once cracked & refined.

Probably replace a few buffalo & fuel a few Kubota's.

The article is meaningless I'm afraid. Most likely a bit of advertising for the next licensing round.

What they should be announcing is a reserves estimate. "The fields are expected to produce xx million barrels." A small field would be 10 - 50 million.

I get the daily Oil & Gas Journal update. If Thailand had any reserves to speak of, I should have known about it.

Not great. Recall one well drilled named the Queen Siriket well that ended up a dry hole. Had to be careful with that if you know what I mean.

Is it fair to assume that you are quite familiar with drilling dry holes?

Shame too as Burma does have a significant amount of oil both on/offshore.

^I was actually reading about the dubious moral ethics of Oil Co.'s today.

It's amazing who they'll get in bed with if there's a buck in it.

Not so sure, there are currently oil fields in operation to the west of Petchabun (Phitsanolok) and gas field developments to the east (North of Kong Khaen). So I'd say the odds of striking oil in Phetchabun wouldbe pretty good.
