    Ayutthaya {What do you know}

Taking a trip to Ayutthaya early January, the little lady would like to spend a few days in a 'nice hotel'

Any advice from first hand experience would be appreciated. Also information on any local attractions besides the ruins which you may consider worth viewing.

An update on the night life wouldn't go amiss either, after all, all those ruins and boat rides, are going to work up a need for relaxation!

A nice hotel is the Woraburi.

The Cowboy Bar near The Grand Hotel is 'OK', there are a few karaoke bars near there as well as a couple of nightclubs.

Thanks for that MMtD I took a quick scan at the Woraburi info pages and it looks the part.

Cowboy Bar has the right name for a good night i would think so I'll check it out!

Offer? Well, just a normal boat trip. I know the family that they have boats so it would be nice if I can recommend a customer to them.

If you want to book it with me, send your CV over then I'll consider it.

ayutthaya is a thai version of mayberry rfd. a mellow little burgh. worth a visit. the riverside is a decent place and is ayuttaya's version of an upper scaleish hotel.

3 days and you will be quite ready to move on.

    I liked it there!
Was there for a week or more a few years ago doing a health and safety assessment of a textile factory ( Got to laugh - industrial safety + Thailand + T shirt sweatshop = nightmare!)
Apart from that there were a couple of good bars and local food shops .
There was a particularly good Chinese coffee shop/bar / restauraunt across the road from the bus terminus .

There are many river side restaurants, I tried a few and all were great. They also take you on the boat around Ayutthaya island while you are eating as well but I never try it, seem quite good though.

For the boat trip, just let me know about how many people will join you and how long you want to be in the boat then they can suggest which temples worth to visit.

Give me an idea of what they have on offer for half a day or so (two persons) candle light dinner and fireworks on the boat trip round the island. Throw in a couple of can-can dancers and a magician who can make an elephant vanish; but keep the cost down!

    If it's not too late:

Nice hotels: Krung Sri River, River View Place. (I'm not a fan of the Woraburi.)

    Non-temple things to do:

    Elephant ride
    Boat trip around the island
    Aranyik (sword making village)
Wat Gai (OK, it's a temple, but it's got bizarre sculptures of hell and loads of friendly monkeys - not on the tourist trail)
    Japanese Historical Study Centre
    Japanese Village

    Further afield:

Royal Summer Palace at Bang Pa-in
Royal Arts & Crafts Centre, Bang Sai
Sunflower fields between Lopburi and Saraburi (good in December/early January)

If you like dead things then the Portugese settlement is good, somewhere in here.
