Kanchanaburi: What to do and where to stay?

In August I will be taking a mate and his missus to Kannars.

I have been there 3 times before but still don't really know the place that well.

How long does it take by bus?

How long does it take by train?

Where should we stay? We will hire motorbikes if we need.

I plan to take them to the bridge (obviously) the cemetary (either one or two of them) and the Aussie museum next to the cemetary (well I will go find a beer while they go through it!)

What else should I show them? We are only there one night so have an afternoon and then the next morning free.

Also, do they have a bus they can catch from Kannars to Hua Hin?

    Cheers.
News is what someone, somewhere is trying to suppress - everything else is just advertising.

^ A friend of mine stays there (he's loaded) so it's probably pretty good.

have a kiwi mate who runs tours up there...cost you an extra 1000 baht for limo service...not sure whether your freinds would appreciate dragging up there on a bus(!)

    Hellfire Pass info is here

    and Tiger Temples info here...

    both worth visiting for antipodeans...

    Cheers Klongy.

    Off to a good start.

1,000 baht seems a good price to go to Kan. Its not a motorbike is it?

    1 1/2 -2 hrs minibus from BKK.

The railjourney from Kan to the border and back is enjoyable and will fill half a day.

There is a cave-temple just a bit further than one of the cemeteries with a nice view across the river.
I am sure I posted some pics, can't find the thread now.

A nice and fresh place to visit is the Erawan waterfalls 65km off Kanburi Erawan Waterfall - Very beautiful and fresh. Kanchanaburi, Thailand

I went there 10 years ago so I don't remember exactly the way, but rent a bike and follow the signs on the road. If I remember good it's ~2h to reach the place. Alsa a big dam to visit not far, beautiful place. http://www.bangkoksite.com/Kanchanab...ongkornDam.htm

Lol, had to edit my post as I don't remembered it was such far. But a good one day excursion with your own bike or by bus.

pick pick pick - always picking!

    Not fussy at all.

Anywhere between 600 - 2000 baht (my mates on a budget and I'm too stingy to shout him a 5 star room )

Somewhere close to good food and cold beer.

Ah = sorry, I don't know anything as classy, but there are a few nice places along the river a bit further out from the noisy center in the 300-600 bracket.

Anyone familiar with the Immigration office there in Kanchanaburi?
That's the one closest to me once I get shifted back.
    Cheers.

If you're driving, take highway 323 south until it runs into main highway #4 and continue south to Hua Hin.
