| Central Thailand and Bangkok Forum The Central Plains of Thailand are dominated by Bangkok, with its multitudes of Temples, Museums, the Grand Palace, and slowly moving North towards Ayutthaya the ancient Capital of Siam, and onto Lop Buri which is famous for its monkeys, and Sukhothai with its ancient Temples and Wats. |

| BKK hotel 1,000 - 1,500baht Any recommendations for a clean hotel in Bangkok which is conveniently located near the skytrain not in the nana area. My price range is from 500 to 1,500 per night. It must have a nice size bathtub and cable with CNN.( I haven't seen CNN for years!) I guess Ratchadadumneurn Road/Kaosan area is okay too. Just some location where its easy to get on a bus or skytrain to get around town. I'd like to get away for a night tomorrow or Saturday. Any links would be appreciated. |

| Elite Member | I would highly recommend "Home Place" in Sukhumvit Soi 33. About halfway down the soi on the right and when driving from Sukumvit and in a small sub-soi on the right. You will see the sign. Nice BIG clean rooms, the showers and air con works and I pay 1,200 Baht per night. Close to all the bars and restaurants, quite location, sky train> 5 minutes walk and I have never had to book, just walk in. The best kept secret in that area and as far as accomodation IMO. Check the hotel information on their web site and if you want to book in advance. |

this one confirms your pricing though At Home Place - Bangkok Thailand online Reservation Service Years ago I booked a mate into a serviced apartment above Napoleon on Suk 33. Then it was 8000/month! After a few days he called me full of abuse. Reckoned the apartment was great value but it was costing him a fortune walking down the soi every night...

| some good suggestions, thanks. The one on Soi 33 Home Place looks interesting but it doesn't show a kingsize bed in any of the pictures. I've just gotten used to sleeping in a big bed over the years. Also I would like a bathtub. It really looks clean though. I'll think about this one. Here's what the website says: "There are different types of rooms available at [at]Home Place, 6 Superiors, 11 Deluxes, 2 Studios, 4 Suites. Every room has air conditioning, a private bath room with hot & cold shower, a telephone, a refrigerator and cable TV (HBO, CNN, ESPN, NHK, and Local channels )" :::: [at] Home Place :::: The Bourbon Street Restaraunt, Bar and Boutique Hotel has:
The majestic is too close to the nightlife for me. I want a little peace and quiet. A massage in my room might not be bad though. Thanks for the suggestions. Right now I am only considering the HomePlace. The days of cheap rooms with all the features seem to be over |

9/1 Soi 20, Sukhumvit Road, Tel: (02) 2610401-4 Fax: (66 2) 2610414 - 720 (A) Its got massive bed, enough for me and three girls (wife and daughters I might add) 10 min walk to the Emporium and skytrain. SLAGDOG friendly, bring 10 back and KW's monkey, they don't care. Service is pretty much crap, but who cares. walk down Soi 20, away from Sukumvit and on the corner of Soi 22 and 20 is the best value breakfast in town, served by a freindly, chain smoking, fat lady, great brekkey tho'. | |

| Thanks for the ideas. In the end I ended up staying at the President Inn on Soi 11. It has a large bathtub and tiny TV with Bloomberg and some other English Channels. Only 700 baht that was what you get for your money. I checked out the Business Inn which is new; that was 1,600 for a single. The Swiss Park was 2,000 for one person and 2,100 for two. All three of these are in the same area. Yep, I ended up in the same old dingy part of town. I planned on drinks with a friend up at Londoner but we made our way down to cowboy and were there until after midnight. I walked back alone past the thermae and all that; it was a meat market along Suk at 2am! Nope I didn't partake. In the end my hotel room was good enough for the amount of time I spent in it. Next time I am going to find a place on the other side of the city of maybe in Ayuttaya. |

| You just don't get as much for your money in BKK anymore. Pattaya is a lot better for the money. Ayuttaya would just be an escape from all the pollution. I used to really like the wild nights of BKK but it just doesn't appeal to me in as it did. I guess I am just getting old. |
