Martini's in Phnom Penh is closed....

Just got a confirming email. The long rumored closing of this Phnom Penh fixture of many years, a den with a disco, movies, and various ladies of the night from Vietnam and Cambodia, has closed. I great loss to tradition more than anything. There was a time, not long ago, when it was full of Vietnam ladies who liked barangs(farangs) but as time went along, they were shunned and said ladies only dated Asians. Things cycle, but to make a long story short, Martini's, one of my favorite watering holes in PNH has closed. A true loss.

The newer location was too far from the Riverside. I'm surprised that they lasted this long. The other old time staple, Sharkey's isn't doing so well either.

Martini's has always been a long way from the Riverside. Not sure of your context? They don't cater to the Riverside backpacker crowd anyhow.

As for Sharkey's, they started scamming customers with their "Lady Drink" bullshit and the food went to shit. However, I've heard they are pushing ahead with a new approach to in fact get backpackers in there. Fuck them scamming people. I'll never go back. They got me once, not again. Can you imagine my horror when I was charged $3.usd for soda pop for one of my female friends who doesn't even fucking work there? Fuck Sharkey's forever. They can and do eat shit.

Think I first encountered Martini's in 1999. Some fookin' place that was!

Ever heard of the 'Wedding Cake' in Sihanookville?
    Fantastic spot.

The 1st time in Cambodia about a dozen years ago we went Martini's and they were around 172 or 178 and had just moved in. Then they had moved back out by Tuol Sleng when we came back 6 months later
