Texting from thailand to cambodia

I have a friend in Cambodia (yes, he,s still going to marry her). I have his Cambodian mobile phone number and have rung him from here. It costs a fair bit though. What I cannot do is send a bloody text. I just get a message saying text not sent. I am on AIS, one to call and he is on SMART.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Make sure you use the "+" symbol before the number.

For example, if my number in Thailand was 0812341234, then you send it like this...

+66812341234

Remember to add the country code and knock off the 1st zero.

Would be easier (and cheaper) to uses LINE, Whatsap, Viber or Skype though.

MY Cambodian gf always calls home and I use TOOK DEE calling Card,
3 baht/minute to call ( about 1/3rd of ais)

Overseas Call start at 0.45 Baht/Min, International Calling Card

I text using ais and its 6 baht/text

Texting Cambodia as above use the + 855
for calling using direct ais use 009 855

Brains or beauty or both? I have a dishwasher but she is getting on In years now and not the quietest. Oh what to do. Try the whatsapp its popular in s.e. Asia. Laos kids use it. Cambodia the same.

Using (+) has cracked the problem. I sent a text and it cost about 9 baht.

I have installed line and it looks good but getting my luddite oppo in Cambodia to install it is probably going to be a non starter. Have lost count of the number of times we have had Skype workshops round at my house back in UK
