The Ratchaprasong Square Trade Association (RSTA), a grouping of retailers in the business district area, today submitted an open letter to the prime minister, asking for a law to govern political demonstrations.

Chai Srivikorn, chairman of the association, said in the letter that in 2010, the retailers and 2,088 entrepreneurs suffered from losses of Bt11 billion from the demonstration.

The event also caused insecurity to the jobs of 30,661 workers.

The loss continues, as demonstrators return to use the area for their demonstration once or twice a month, each time entailing a large group of people.

Still, the government has not yet had a measure to properly handle the demonstration.

He said that the latest demonstration on January 9 led to the loss of Bt100 million to retailers in the area.

they are raising a valid question, the silly reds are bad for business, can't they just do their silly demonstration somewhere else like Nakhon nowhere ?

Tough luck! They have a valid reason to protest. Far more then the yellow shirts ever had. No they can't do it in Nakhon nowhere as the ones protesting mostly come from Bangkok and it would serve no purpose as a protest.

The Red Ratchaprasong Traders and Street Vendors Association wants to remind people that it has top quality redshirt goods to sell right under the big brand names of Louis Vuitton, La Perla, Ferragamo, Fendi and much more.

The Association will fight for its right to sell these products and plans to turn out in many tens of thousands every second Sunday on Ratchaprasong.

Democrat asks reds to change rally venue

BANGKOK, 16 January 2011 (NNT) - The Democrat Party has asked the new leaders of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) to seek different rally location instead of the Ratchaprasong intersection to avoid causing troubles to the entrepreneurs in the area.

After the vendors and retailers around the Rachaprasong intersection have expressed their anger over the Red Shirts’ gatherings and called on the government for help, the Democrat Party Spokesperson has asked the UDD to reconsider the protest venue, saying the anti-government crowd are infringing upon the basic rights of all business owners in the area.

He urged UDD’s new leaders to talk to crowd-pulling hard-core leader Jatuporn Prompan, who has planned to hold a rally at the intersection twice a month, to consider moving the protest to another location such as Sanam Luang , causing much less trouble in terms of business loss and traffic chaos.

After talking to the Ratchaprasong business operators, the UDD agreed to keep their protest at a maximum of two hours each time. Their next rally is planned on January 23rd.

Perhaps the shop keepers could PAY the reds to demonstrate else where. If they made an offer of 750 bht a head to p..s off to Nakon Nowhere, I am sure the Reds would be happy. :mid::chitown:

BANGKOK, 16 January 2011 (NNT) - Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajivahas denied pushing the burden of working out the issue of rally venue to the Red Shirts, saying if he undertook the task talking to the anti-government groups himself, it could be viewed as a political agenda.

According to the Prime Minister, the reason why he asked the Red Shirts to send in a representative to talk with Ratchaprasong vendors was that he did not want it to be looked on as a politically-motivated issue, adding that both sides, the redshirts and the vendors, would be better off exchanging opinions and joining hands finding a solution to the matter themselves.
