Thailand’s exports to China continue surge in October: KRC

BANGKOK, Nov 26 - Thailand’s exports to China in October continued to surge by 27 percent, to a record high of US$1.9 billion in value from the same month last year, according to Kasikorn Research Center (KRC).
Although Thai export growth to China dropped slightly from the previous month, it outgrew major export destinations of the United States, Japan, Europe, and ASEAN.
It showed China would still play an important role in boosting Thailand’s export sector for the rest of this year through next year.
KRC said Thailand is considered a production network close to China, as it is a quality capital goods and raw material importing source.
Also, Thailand remains a source of consumer products recognized by Chinese people whose purchasing power is growing higher.
However, since the Chinese economy enjoyed hefty growth, foreign capital continued flowing into the country’s money and capital markets. This resulted in China facing greater challenges of higher inflation rate and asset bubbles.
Therefore, it is likely that Chinese economic overheating would ease to a certain extent because Beijing would probably issue measures to control financial liquidity to maintain economic stability and ease the risk of an economic plunge.
Because of this, KRC maintains growth estimates of Thailand’s exports to China at 30 per cent this year and 10-20 per cent next year.
