JBIC to give Bt700 billion loan for Thailand's mega projects

JBIC to give Bt700 billion loan for Thailand's mega projects

BANGKOK, March 7 (TNA) - The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) affirmed on Friday it was ready to grant a Bt700 billion loan to finance Thailand's mega projects.

Speaking after talking to a senior JBIC official, Transport Minister Santi Prompat said the Japanese agency would grant a loan for nine electric train extention routes.

Other countries have also shown interested in extending loans for the Thai government's mega projects, he said, adding that the Ministry of Finance would accept loans from the source giving the best offer.

JBIC is also interested in giving Bt5.6 billion in loans to the Thai government for the second-phase of construction at Suvarnabhumi international airport.

The Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AoT) plans an extension to beginning later this year to serve a rising number of passengers using the Suvarnabhumi terminal.

The final decision rests with the new AOT board to be announced March 14.

Mr. Santi said beside seeking loans from JBIC, AOT might issue new shares to finance the airport extension project.

Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) governor Prapat Chongsanguan said that JBIC and the MRTA will sign a contract for the first portion of a loan of Bt18 billion out of a total of Bt300 billion, for construction of the Purple Line electric rail project later this month. (TNA)-E004

Why would a two year old airport need extending already?

    Who did the math originally?

Yesterday, Mr Santi also received a North Korean government representative who informed him of North Korea's intention to provide loans to Thailand for mass transit projects.

He said the government should be open to offers of financial support from other countries too.

Starting mega projects when the recession starts and inflation surges might not be the best idea, a bit late for that, those should have started 5 years ago

good economic policy however after a long and painful recession, but not at the beginning, it will bring more problems than anything else,

Hahahaha - friggin' wankers. They have more dollars than possibly any other nation on earth! Printed in Pyongyang, of course. The dodgy dollars would go down well with the dodgy plutocrats here.

Butterfly is spot on - the economics of government-funded mega-projects are not a good stimulus package, more like a band-aid that will come unstuck soon.

    Bunch of monkeys.

MRTA expediting 3 BTS extension routes for completion by 2016

BANGKOK, 21 August 2010 (NNT) — The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) is expediting the construction of the Purple, Blue and Dark Green Lines of the BTS Skytrain, expecting their completion before 2016.

Acting Governor of the MRTA Yiemchai Chatkaew stated that the authority was now expediting the progress of the three BTS extension projects. They consist of the Purple Line from Bang Yai to Bang Sue, the Blue Line from Hua Lamphong to Bang Khae and from Bang Sue to Tha Phra and the Dark Green Line from Mo Chit to Saphan Mai and from Bering to Samut Prakarn.

According to Mr Yiemchai, the Purple Line is set to be finished and ready for service in 2014 with more than 100,000 passengers expected per day. The Blue Line, on the other hand, is currently in the bidding process and its construction is expected to commence by the end of this year and be completed by 2016.

As for the Dark Green Line, there have been difficulties in its land expropriation for constructing a maintenance center and train parking station. This will likely cause a delay in construction and also increase the budget needed by at least two billion THB per kilometer. However, Mr Yiemchai assured the route’s readiness for operation by 2014.

They mistake pure illusion for reality, license for freedom, treason for patriotism, vengeance for justice."-Simón Bolívar
