    Thai Investment Account

Anyone have any experience with Thai based investments. Was thinking to open an account for the lady. Heard Thai stocks pay good (tax free??) dividends, which I was surprised to hear. An online site with English would be ideal.

    thai investments

Lorenzo. Do you mean a stockbroking account? or something else?
Yes, the stock dividends are tax free. There is no one single online source for all thai investments, but there is one good book that provides a great intro to what is available .... Your Investment Guide to Thailand by Silkworm Books .... just google on the title and you will find more details

maybe I can answer some of those questions since I managed accounts for myself and professionally for clients

    - Dividends are taxed, but it's only a 10% withholding tax
    - Capital gains are tax free
    - Trading costs are super cheap
    - You can even trade direct, like the pro, with "trading console" at no extra charge, very convenient, without the need to talk to a silly Thai broker who is more likely going to fuck up your trades unless you are a big hand (like me)

Dividends can go as high as 14%, and after the 2008 crisis, there were amazing bargains to catch with 22% dividends and that went 100% up in capital gains. I believe there was a few threads done on the subject where I was referring some stocks, that probably went up more than 50% since.

you can start here, they have links to cheap online broker

I wouldn't recommend buying stocks for individuals, may they be US or Thai or from other countries, too much variation, and it's difficult for most individuals to monitor actively their holdings, which often result in loss.

best best is to buy some mutual funds over SE Asia or some Index for Thai or Asian equities.

There aren't that many options for long term passive investing, it's going to be some Equity Index or ETF combined with an asset allocation model on other asset class.

For active investing, I would personally recommend heavy risk Hedge Funds with an active following up of their performance

I tried 'Google translate' but it wouldn't even look at the above statement.

You need to click on the 'financial' section of google, same as the 'images' section to get a proper and real time translation.

Long term and passive are very key points as the thai lady will not be able to make any investing adjustments. I am very aware of US based mutual funds and ETFs.

Is there any possibility there are comparable mutual fund available in Thailand, in baht, following the SET index?

there are quite a few mutual funds you can buy here through brokers or banks, don't know how good they performed though, probably lagging the index

EPS up to 16 satang on the first quarter http://www.set.or.th/dat/news/201005/10018537.pdf
There should be no problem for another juicy 30 satang (or even higher) dividend for the current year

    Question

I have heard that Thai stocks pay good dividends.

Is there a mutual fund or other means to invest?

Anyone use the financial advisor that has a column in Pattaya Mail News?

Quite simply, head for Soi Six in Pattaya. Just at the crossing with Second Road, there's the KT Zmico office KT ZMICO Securities, thai stocks online trading . Opening an account costs 30 baht.

    Lorenzo,

If you want investment accounts/bonds/etc then use some time to analyse the options in Singapore before investing here.
