Dec 31, 2009

BANGKOK -(Dow Jones)- The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand said Monday it plans to kick off the auction process on at least two electric rail projects in Bangkok this year.

The projects include THB52.46 billion ($1.57 billion) worth of civil works to extend an existing blue line that will link to Bangkok's western area, and THB17.32 billion worth of construction for part of the green line that will link with the eastern suburb, MRTA Governor Chukiat Phota-yanuvat told reporters.

The MRTA is currently revising another project, which is also part of the green line that will link with the northern suburb, to extend the planned routes.

It hopes to finalize details of the revised project and submit to the Cabinet for consideration soon.
