    Markets up? Why?

Todfay markets are really shooting up. HongKong was up 800pts right away this morning. The futures for the US market are at 254point up! Why? I would have thought that the takeover of freddieMac and FannyMae would have been bad news. Are things goign to go up or is this going to turn down again?

The takeover signifies a lessening of widespread financial troubles. IF either or both failed international markets would have crashed.

Can't beat a good healthy dose of free enterprise in the American financial markets.

Wonder when the US government will be nationalising GM and Microsoft.

Futures are down 360 for the Dow today. Should be interesting tonight. Do they still have breakers?

Call it what you will but recent government approval of $25B low interest loans to US car manufactures could be considered a form of nationalization.

Yes, it will be interesting to see tonight. All I know is what I read on the media. But it sounds like some selling will happen.

The US government in now in the insurance business, having bailed out AIG to the tune of US$85B and now owns 79.9% of the company... I heard a rumor that Disneyland is next...

An d the markets swing up from 1,200 down in Hong Kong to up. Wild swing at the end of the day. Are gov't buying in or something like that? Seems like the end of the world the in the morning then the future looks bright then it darkens. I guess alcohol sales are doing well at the moment. Sleeping pills will probably sell well towards the end of the wildness.

Markets are sound when it comes down to it - more psychological - fear does stupid things.

SET was down 35 at one time, but quickly recovered 30 at the tail end.

It's a game, and never mind the squeals because the big money never loses out...a lot people are making a lot of money out of the current fiasco, just as they did to celebrate the new century.

The economic system is like an illegal casino anyways. There are no godsent moral rules. It's all a risk. If the house fails the casino closes. Morality/fairness is not a requirement of capitalism.
