SHIN Satellite Corporation’s latest US$5 million contract with the government-run Myanmar Post and Tele-communication Enterprise (MPT) has more than doubled the country’s telecoms capacity, said Chalermkiet Limrattanakul, the company’s regional manager on March 12.

“Our latest contract with MPT to use our corporation’s iPStar services more than doubled the telecommunication capacity when it came into effect on March 1,” he said.

“MPT is getting more and more subscribers to iPStar, so the enterprise chose to expand their bandwidth.

“The new contract was signed in Yangon and means subscribers can get quicker and better services,” he said.

The contract was signed by Mr Chalermkiet and MPT’s managing director, and the enterprise’s chief engineer of the Overseas Communi-cations Department.

Myanmar uses KU-band and C-Band satellite frequencies and the new agreement sees these two expanded from 16.5 mega bits a second (Mbps) and 16.5 Mega Hertz (MHz) respectively to 45Mbps and 26.5MHz.

This expansion, he said, would be felt by users of telephones, broadband internet services and all viewers of satellite television.

Even the humble land-line telephone will be boosted by this increased capacity, he added.

“This is a five-year contract and we expect that when it is finished we will continue our cooperation,” Mr Chalermkiet said.

means that the Thai's lent the money to Burma at 3-4 % which they had to borrow at 5 % so Burma could upgrade their phones and the money went to Shin ...........
