Noppadon plans to bring investors back to Thailand

Noppadon plans to bring investors back to Thailand

    BangkokPost.com

Foreign Minister Noppadon Pattama said Post Forum 2008 that he is ready to inform foreign investors that democracy is restored in Thailand and the country wants to welcome them back.
Mr Noppadon also called on public to judge the achievements of the ministry, not its policy.

He then touched on the policy of the Foreign Ministry, and explained that it is written based on the wants and needs of people and the country.

He also said he is expected to travel a lot to create a better understanding about Thailand among foreigners after the military coup.

Mr Noppadon used a relation between Thailand and Singapore as an example. He said the relation with the city state has been improved, and Singapore investors will travel to Thailand to discuss with the government further investment in April.

He also mentioned his plan to push Thai embassies to become business centres.

Democracy, or lack of it, is not a major hurdle for investors.

It is the inherent and omnipresent corruption as well as the monolithic regulatory monster and the unequal company ownership situation that pose the problems for investor-confidence.

As long as Thais, those in power especially, think at the level of a 5-year old this place will never reach its potential.

First-class flights, 5 star hotels, pointless and expensive lunch 'meetings' for him and his extended entourage and mia noi.

Yes I'm sure he will create better understanding.

I just transferred in this months beer tokens from the good old US of A and got 32.17 to the dollar, is the lowest I've seen it.

    But never mind!

    Becuase?

^ The glimmer of hope, that Thailand could compete with China, is only a glimmer, which a falling star gives, when going out of sight.

Spot on. It is all risk v return. Having regard to the strength of their near neighbour China, and it has it own economic issues, you would have to say that Thailand, with an unstable and possibly corrupt management team aboard, is high risk/average or unknown return.

The amount of capital looking for a place to rest is not the problem in the world at the moment, it is knowing where to put it.
