    Motorcycle taxis to increase price
    28 November 2007

NEWS HEADLINE :. Escalating oil prices with yet any sign of decline have prompted price raises across many services, especially in transportation. Motorcycle taxis, commonly found in urban areas have also expressed a need to increase their fares.

Motorcycle taxis in the Rangsit area have stated that they are preparing to increase fares but are at the moment still assessing the fuel price situation. Riders in the Aree area have already had two separate price hikes. The motorcycle taxis have reasoned that not only have fuel prices caused a burden on them, but also that the Cabinet recently approved a wage hike for laborers so they feel that their own rate increase is appropriate.

Labour group calls for minimum wage increase
    12 March 2008

The National Congress of Thai Labour requests the Minister of Labour to speed up increasing the minimum wage by nine baht due to higher cost of living.

Chairman of the National Congress of Thai Labour and former member of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA), Manus Kosol (มนัส โกศล), and leaders of six labour unions submit a letter to Labour Minister Uraiwan Thienthong (อุไรวรรณ เทียนทอง), calling for a nine-baht increase per day in minimum wage. According to the group, employees with small income are having a tough time due to continuous increases in commodity prices.

The group will travel to listen to Mrs Uraiwan’s explanation on minimum wage on March 18th and will travel to submit a letter to the premier on March 19th.

The minister says she will forward the letter to Permanent Secretary for Labour Chuthathawat Inthrarasuksri (จุฑาธวัช อินทรสุขศรี) before calling a meeting to discuss the minimum wage increase. She also expresses confidence that the ministry’s board on minimum wage will approve the group’s request.
