NONTHABURI, 21 September 2018 (NNT) - Thailand's export value in August 2018 has reached a record high at 22.79 billion US dollars.
Trade Policy and Strategy Office (TPSO) Director Pimchanok Vonkorpon revealed August's export value has reached the highest-ever record at 22.79 billion US dollars, accounting for a 6.7% growth, with key export products being manufactured by industrial sector which has grown by 5.8%, and agricultural sector which has grown by 4.1%.
Meanwhile, August's total import was recorded at 23.38 billion US dollars, showing a trade deficit by 558 million US dollars.
During the first eight months of this year, the export totaled 169.03 billion US dollars, showing a 10% growth, compared to the total import which amounted to 166.68 billion US dollars, showing a 2.3 billion US dollars in trade surplus.
The TPSO chief said the trade war between the United States and China would adversely affect some export products from Thailand, mainly steel, aluminum, solar cell panels, as well as lower the export volume of electronic goods to China.
She said Thailand's commercial attaches will hold a meeting in October to discuss potential new markers to replace those currently affected, with focus on Asian and South East Asian regions.
The Ministry of Commerce expects 2018's exports to grow by nine percent, amounting to 257.93 billion US dollars.
