Thread: DLT in search of operators for cross-border transport services

BANGKOK, 1st March 2018 (NNT) – The Department of Land Transport (DLT) is accepting applications from transport entrepreneurs interested in providing cross-border transport services between Thailand and neighboring countries.

Deputy Director-General of the DLT, Cherdchai Sanunsrisakorn says that the transport of goods and passengers between Thailand and Cambodia will be conducted in line with the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Exchange of Traffic Rights for Cross-Border Transport through the Aranyaprathet-Poipet Border Crossing Points under the Greater Mekong Subregion Cross-Border Transport Agreement.

Meanwhile, the Thailand-Laos-Vietnam services will come under the tripartite MOU on the Initial Implementation of the Agreement for the Facilitation of Cross-Border Transport of Goods and People at the Border Crossing Points of Lao Bao, Vietnam; Dansavanh and Savannakhet, Laos; and Mukdahan, Thailand.

Service providers who are chosen as operators of the two routes will enjoy added convenience and lower operating costs as goods and passengers will be able to travel seamlessly to the second or third country without the need for transfers. The routes are also expected to help boost the economy of the Greater Mekong Subregion in the future.

Interested operators are encouraged to submit applications with the DLT from now until March 19. If selected, they will be obligated to carry out detailed studies on the codes of conduct for cross-border transport as well as the routes and geography. They will also have to ensure that service quality is on par with international standards.
