LONDON, 21 February 2018 (NNT) – The Brexit of the United Kingdom from the European Union might probably cause Thai goods import to the U.K. to drop, said Thai commercial attache to London Supawadee Yamgamol.

She commented that uncertainties of Brexit would affect the U.K.'s economy and cause the British pound to significantly drop, making customers more reluctant to spend money, and resulting in a slowdown in the investment sector.

She said the British economy will continue to decelerate until the negotiations with the E.U. have been more clearly defined.

However, the Ministry of Commerce has reduced the projection of the Thai exports to the U.K. to two percent, from a previous 5.9 percent.

The Brexit could probably provide Thailand with a better opportunity to negotiate a free trade agreement with the U.K. without having to deal with the E.U., the commercial attache said.
