Defence & Security 2017: Saab plans Thai expansion

Swedish group Saab is looking to expand its profile in Thailand as it positions for future programmes to upgrade existing platforms and meet future requirements of the Thai military.
Tony Bjorklund, head of Saab Thailand, told Jane’s on 9 November at the Defence & Security 2017 show in Bangkok that the company is exploring several options including the potential ownership of training and simulation capability and expanding industrial ties with local companies.
Saab’s most high-profile partnership in the country is with Avia Satcom. Since 2011 Saab has held a 36.6% stake in the firm and has supported its development through technology transfers through which the Thai company has provided tactical data links for the Royal Thai Air Force’s (RTAF’s) fleet of JAS 39 Gripen multirole combat aircraft.
