BANGKOK, 17 December 2016 (NNT) – South Korea has resumed the import of Thai raw chicken after a 12-year-long ban during 2004's avian influenza outbreak.

Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Chatchai Sarikalya said that the authorities had worked hard to convince South Korea into lifting the import ban on the Thai chicken over the past 12 years. The South Korean Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) and Ministry Of Food And Drug Safety finally allowed 12 Thai food processing firms to supply raw chicken to the South Korean market on November 9.

About 40,000 tons of raw chicken, worth 3.6 billion baht, are expected to be exported to South Korea next year, he said.
