The second passenger’s terminal at Don Meuang airport which is now under construction is expected to be completed and open to services in November, said Mr Nitinai Sirismatthakarn, president of Airports of Thailand Publc Company, on Wednesday.

Speaking at the LCC Airports Congress Asia, Bangkok 2015, he said that with the opening of the second passenger’s terminal, Don Meuang airport will be capable of accommodating up to 30 million passengers a year.

He said that since 2012, he disclosed that the number of passengers at Don Meuang airport increased about 50 percent each year while the number of low-cost flights upped 30 percent annually.

In addition, the AOT has plans to build the third passenger’s terminal at Don Meuang which will increase the airport’s capacity to accommodate up to 40 million passengers each year and to make Don Meuang the maintenance hub.

Air Asia CEO Tassaphol Beleveld, meanwhile, asked AOT to increase the parking space for aircrafts at Don Meuang pointing out that traffic is normally congested in the mornings and evenings.

He also said the airline was willing to cooperate with the AOT in collecting the 35 baht fee charged by AOT for advance checkings of departing and arriving passengers.
