Langsuan : Starbucks launches first community store outside of the US

Starbucks launches first community store outside of the US

    14 May 2013

Starbucks chairman, president and CEO Howard Schultz has inaugurated the first Starbucks community store outside of the US, in the Langsuan neighbourhood of Bangkok, Thailand.

Schultz was in Bangkok celebrating 15 years in market with Starbucks partners (employees) and to officially open Starbucks' first community store in Asia, where 10% of sales from Starbucks hand-crafted beverages will be directed to the farming communities of Northern Thailand.

Starbucks Thailand has announced the doubling of its store count over the next five years.

"As I join the team today to celebrate 15 years in market, there is an unparalleled passion our partners demonstrate for delivering the 'Starbucks Experience' to our customers in Thailand," said Schultz. "I have never been more confident in our ability to grow this market, doubling store count over the next five years.

"As we continue to grow, it's critical that we stay true to our more than 40 years of heritage, continuing to build our business with a focus on taking care of our people, creating moments of connection with our customers and giving back to the communities where we do business. The community store in Langsuan signifies our ongoing commitment to give back to communities, and more specifically, to support and sustain local coffee and farming communities in Northern Thailand."

I don't see the point of paying so much for a cup of Java.
Many years ago in OZ we had a brand called Chicory that when brewed it sent your coffee senses to the stratosphere.

Not paying taxes and raping and pillaging every country they are in? Will fit in well in Thailand.

Starbucks looks to blend into Myanmar
    Rosie Gogan-Keogh
    Tuesday, 14 May 2013

Starbuck's CEO Howard Schultz told reporters in Bangkok on Monday that Myanmar is one of the coffee chain's targeted countries to expand into in the near future.

"Within the next couple of years, I'd say," said Schultz, on a visit to mark the chain's 15-year anniversary in Thailand.

The Seattle-founded company plans to double its Thai coffeehouses to 320 within the next five years and recently launched its first shops in Vietnam and India.

The announcement comes following the entry of two other major US companies—Ford and Coca Cola—into Myanmar.
