Does anyone really care if this govt assassinates people in broad daylight? No. Ask the Burmese, Muslims, hill tribes, etc.

The govt is counting on the red leaders to cow out after seeing one of their own get picked off. If they do, this will be a brilliant move on the part of the govt. If not, then things might get complicated.

indeed, quite daring I would say and a bet, but no doubt will draw respect. Not sure if rumors are true that the "sensible" red leaders have quit. In itself that could be a bad thing, even though it would mean they could take their cattle "herd" back to their villages, it could leave the space for more extreme leaders.

Nope, their my opinion - have you started tailing me again? I'll respond this time but i'll simply ignore you (without the need of any function) if you're going to revert back to your lazy, repetitive, lesser quality crap n' token catchphrase college canteen name calling.

Tis a good point. I am not (by any means) an expert on snipers, but my understanding is that real (trained) snipers do not use run of the mill weapons. I have a feeling that if he had been shot in the head by an army sniper, he wold not be in a coma, because he would not have much of a head left after the impact.

Point here is that he was as much a bother to the moderate red leadership as he was to the government. A deal was on the table, with elections proposed for 6 months. As I read it many of the moderate reds wanted to accept that. It was the extreme reds that blocked it.

As for sae deng, quite honestly, it could not have happened to a more deserving character. He was almost certainly behind the assassination of the army soldiers on April 10th. He is a trouble maker whose sole objective is to act as a spoiler for Taxin.

"Darkee Chompang, 47, a guard on the protesters’ barricade, was on duty when he heard gunfire and saw the general collapse. Mr Darkee peered over the encampment’s massive bamboo wall last night and watched helmeted soldiers moving in the grounds of a nearby building as he related his story in a whisper.

“I saw Seh Daeng talking to a group of people,” he said. “Then I heard what sounded like gunshots, very loud. And then there was chaos.”

Mr Darkee, who was armed with a bamboo stave and brandishing a metal shield, said he thought that General Khattiya had survived. The general was later reported to be in intensive care in hospital."

Anyway, never mind all this speculation - is it safe to go to Phrom Phong and buy tortilla chips or will I have to settle for Doritos from Lotus?

A slippery slope indeed to use that kind of justification for politically motivated murders as it can be used by either side. Democratic elections are a far better solution in the long term.

Seh Daeng wasn't a terrorist - in no more way that any serving soldier will be.

He will be remembered as a Freedom Fighter - trying to rid Thailand of one of the most evil, self-serving, money-grubbing men of the twentieth century. One who had to have the entire legal, media and commercial deck stacked in his favour to keep his minions in ignorant poverty.

    Great reporting:
"The Cabinet, backing out of a previous offer to hold elections early"
Didn't think it was worth mentioning I guess that the moderate red leadership had accepted the deal but the radicals had sabotaged it with every changing conditions. The government waited over 5 days for the reds to work it out and when it became obvious the radicals had won, they took it off the table.
Note the author quotes several of the radicals, but fails to note the Veera (who is Chairman of the UDD and the most senior leader) and others have not made any statements in several days and rumors are they are leaving.
Typical one sided left wing foreign reporting.

That's an interesting observation. First thought was you are referring to Thaksin, but given SD's political persuasion, probably not. Give us a clue.
