Bangkok Floods - The MIA Thread

Time to list the missing in action members, chitowns last words were.

Crap! My village just had a breach in the sandbag wall Well it was inevitable I heard a lot of commotion outside my house and I thought it was the idiot builder. I am not that lucky. It turns out that there was a breach in the sandbag wall at my village and they can't stop it. It is a bit alarming to see a wave coming down the street.

Last post was on planning his escape.

As for the improvised toilet , its the one thing I have overlooked in our preperations. I have busied myself this morning sitting on every plastic container in the house on a trial run basis , checking for height and possible splash blowback. The girls find this amusing but it won't be so funny when their time
comes. I'm alright Jack. I've been today but they still have me down as favourite.

I am also planning a new escape route for tomorrows foray out. There is an 8 foot wall at the front of our house which leads to a government housing estate. If I can scale this wall then it will shave off a kilometre of the trip into town and the water is also shallower. I'm going to speak to the builders next door to make it an Anglo Thai Bridge joint venture.

My family will need to travel from Nang Rong (Buriram) to Bangkok on or around the 8th Novemeber. They will be travelling down if they can in my 4WD Vigo. We are due to fly to UK on the 11th November. What would be the best route to come from Buriram to Bangkok?

The two routes I normally drive, one route to Pattaya is through Khao Yai National Park down to Kabinburi and head for Sattahip and take the back road into Banglamung.

To Bangkok its Chock Chai on the 24 onto Route 2 staright down to Saraburi into Bangkok through Rangsit and past Don Mueng Airport on the elevated expressway.

    Any suggestions guys??

If anyone has to use their car/truck make sure you know where the engine air intake is, car engines don't like water inside them.

The flight from Buriram when it flies? Goes to Don Mueng so thats a NO No.....

I was toying with the idea of telling my missus to come down this route.
Nang Rong to Chock Chai down through Khao Yai National Park all the way to Kabinburi straight through Kabinburi and hang a left for Sattahip on the main road to Sattahip there is a turn off to the right for Banglamung which takes you into Pattaya.
Will spend one night in Pattaya and go to the airport early in the morning.
    Does this sound feasible???

I am in Qatar at present so I do not know the full effects of the floods and the best driving routes.

    This just in from Chitown:

Just holding up at the house...making sure the property's safe. I was advised by police neighbor to be on the lookout for bands of roving bandits breaking in to houses in flooded areas...If no one's home they take whatever they can...and if the house is occupied they strong arm rob them of valuables and atm cards using physical violence and threats of return to kill them to obtain pin numbers.
He's just toughing it out for now.
