We have a resident computer genius with his own company, he goes by the nik of Butterfly. I will PM him and he will be more than happy to help you guys out for free. Just be really nice and bring him a plate of fruit for his efforts.

He really likes FRUIT, so make sure he gets some. Here is the company Logo

I went once, and once only, to an IT meeting in Chiang Mai. It was a nightmare. It was full of 90 year old farangs, shorts down to the knees, socks up to the knees, asking questions like how they can make the letters in outlook fonts turn purple because purple is a nice colour.

There was one good comment though. It was from a 120 or so year-old American who complained about meeting a poster from Thai Visa. He said he arranged to meet this poster, Gus G, but when he arrived at Gus's shop to discuss stock-taking software, he was met by this enormously fat man sat behind a desk, shoveling enormous quantities of food into his gob. No matter what he said Gus just kept ladling food into his yap. I'm sure anybody who's ever been to gecko books will know exactly what I mean. At one point Gus attempted to speak to this poster but rather than managing to produce any words he just sprayed enough food over his desk to keep the Shan State Liberation Army fed for a month. The enquirer and his zimmer frame hobbled out of the shop covered in a fine even coat of butter-is-better cake crumbs and spittle, determined to avoid CM farang computer meetings in future, a decision I agreed with and have followed ever since.

If you want to have a reasonable, happy, decent life in Thailand never, ever, go to meetings of farang clubs.

I am fully inclined to agree here.

Tales of the good old days and oneupmanship are rife at these meetings.

A bunch of blokes clutching laptops discussing cookie options and reboot techniques is not my thing, but for some it must be.

    Have a riveting evening.

We've definitely got to send Butters there.

Go on Butters, they need your unique brand of "expertise".

You'll always hear ''when we were in Phom Phen it was years ago before the tourists came blah blah......''

''We remember Pattaya before it went commercial blah blah....''

If I attended this meeting my own ''whenwee'' story would be ...

''When we had an Amstrad CPC464 at home in the 1980s...it had 256k of memory blah blah...''

I think a phone queen like you would be more appropriate,

after talking PC, they will probably compare mobiles and gadgets,

    the perfect audience for you,

if you are lucky, they might also talk XBOX and PS3
