Best Night Markets in Bangkok

My parents arrive here in a few days, and i have the job of tour guide. To be honest, i'm having to do some research, as i didn't really do any tourist things during the time i lived here (2004-08)

i remember hearing something about the old night markets closing down, so what are my current options?

I think this is the one i went to 4/5 years ago,actually really enjoyed more like a sprawling boot fair.

Klong Thom Market

Best known for secondhand goods and assorted knick-knacks, Klong Thom Market sees action every Saturday from 17:00 onwards, and continues going until Sunday's early evening. Formerly known as 'Flashlight Market' due to the fact that buyers will need a flashlight to see the goods, this market is especially crowded on late Saturday night.

Covering areas of Luang, Worachak and Charoenkrung, Suar Pa Roads, Klong Thom has everything from car spare parts, DVDs and CDs, electronic devices to clothing items and toys. Besides the roadside stalls, there's also a three-storey Klong Thom Centre (close to Worachak Road) where car accessories and toys are on sale. If you want to avoid the crowd, best time to go is Sunday morning from 8:00 until 11.00.

Soi 38 a few yards from Thong Lor BTS station, the flaming wok man puts on a good show, foods good too.

Sapan Phut has a night market from around 6ish or a bit later that is mostly second hand stuff, but has a couple of restaurants close by on the river... Close to the Rama I memorial/memorial bridge.

Walk them around Yaowarat for some hustle and bustle and some decent street food.

The Klong Thom is mostly an open air flea market if they like to poke around a hot sweaty boot sale.

I think I read it did but in a strange location.....Sukhumvit down on the new BTS route.....forgewt where.....60's or 80's I think.

i'm really not interested in second hand stuff, as i'm mostly interested in taking my parents there. i went to a anight market in phuket about 6 months ago, which was really good, and very cheap. most of the punters were thai, and i was hoping there was something a little the same in BKK.
Suan Lum Night market seems to be the best on offer..

I went there a few months back and half of the shops weren't opened then, probably different now that the BTS has opened

It is hidden behind a huge stage and beer garden

Siam Paradise Night Bazaar – New Suan Lum

After years of management issues, repeated protests and prolonged postponements, the city’s beloved Suan Lum was finally shut down last month, forcing hundreds of shop owners to disperse to the four corners of Bangkok. It was a sad day – though it didn’t mean the end of the night market. Thankfully, it has recently reopened under a new name in a far-flung location.

Guarded by a pair of decoratively clothed elephant statues, the all-new Siam Paradise has opened opposite Sukhumvit 101/1, in a location between BTS Udom Suk and Punnawithi stations. The more observant among you will have noticed that both of these stops are located on the yet-to-be-opened extension line. If you’re not driving, this means to get there still requires a bus, taxi or motorcycle ride from On Nut station, though the promised August opening of the BTS extension should make reaching Siam Paradise much easier.

Occupying a site almost as large as the old Suan Lum night market, there are sections for food, pets, clothes, gifts, and everything else the old incarnation was famous for. In keeping with its heritage, it’s also home to an open-air beer garden, replete with large LCD screen playing sporting action, live music from the in-house and visiting bands, and food court. Though it lacks Suan Lum’s iconic tower, it does have a similarly rickety looking Ferris wheel (Suan Lum’s was torn down more than a year ago), while on the second floor of the food court sit a number of karaoke rooms where you can sing the night away with friends.

There are only 30 or so shops open so far, alongside the fully functioning beer park, though occupancy is expected to rise. So what are you waiting for? Sounds like Paradise to us…

I doubt many of the same vendors would bother setting up shop in that location. Too far from the action.

it looks like patpong it is then .....should be good for a laugh anyway.., but if i remember correctly, the prices are way over inflated, and the vendors are rude. ie: you looked at my product, so now YOU HAVE TO BUY IT!! - that attitude really pisses me off . it would be nice if there was a market simular to the one in phuket which was fantastic.

MBK is where i will take them shopping. i think they are too old to handle the heat and crowds at the weekend markets..
