    Bangkok Location Advice Needed

I'm looking to rent a townhouse in BKK for when the missus goes back to study.

It will be a 2nd home so only looking to pay around 15,000 or less a month. Needs to be a townhouse as we have a dog. Only requirement is that its less than 3-5km from a BTS/MRT station.

So far looking online I have found a few on Lad Phrao soi 80 ish (10k monthly). That seem about 3km from MRT station.

I have found a few on Soi 60-80 of On Nut (Suk 77) (12-15k monthly) These look about 5km away from On Nut BTS.

Have been trying to find some around Suk 101 but yet to.

Just after some advice as to which of these areas is best, or if there are any obvious areas I am missing.

I realise its a pretty open ended question but any advice or first hand experience in these areas will be much appreciated.

Also if you have a place for rent drop me a PM. I'll be looking for a 2-3 year contract.

    Cheers

I used to live on Soi 50 renting a big house (1/4 Rai) for about 20K a month. I had three dogs. It's not a bad area because you have Tesco's and the BTS at the end of the street and The Toby Jug (English Pub) just down the road. There's a good gym down there as well but there is a lack of street food.

There were cheaper places down there in the 15K range.

It was a lot better than when I lived in On Nut because the traffic down there is really shit. If your traveling down 77 at either of the rush hours be prepared for an hours commute from Carefour to Onnut soi 30.

Edit: Onnut beer garden is just up the road as well in case you need to meet any TD members for a fight!

It is probably worth looking along the new stretch of the BTS past On nut as there will still be low occupancy compared with the inner part of Bangkok. Should be good value for money.

And one of the best things about OnNut was that it was the first stop on the Skytrain so you always get a seat. At Prakanong nobody could even get on the train. I'd be looking where ever the first stop is now.

    Thanks FP.

I'll have a look for Suk Soi 50 then.

So in regards to soi 77, To get from the BTS station to soi 80 on nut (which is about 5km up the soi) is going to be well over an hour on a scooter?

Soi 101 or Soi 103 are looking like they may make good locations then, but I cant find anything decent online yet. I cant get there for just over a month so im guessing a day or 2 riding around will be needed.

In a taxi or baht bus, not a scooter. LoyToys place is around soi 80 I think, he could answer the question better.

103 (or Undom Suk) is a good street as well, loads of street food and bars.

101, 103, 105 look promising. Thanks for the input guys.

Would you prefer the On Nut area over the Lad Phrao area? I'd like to be close to a few bars to have a beer and watch the football, and a super market would be great as I cook for myself most of the time. I know there is a lotus by the On Nut, are there any others near by?

I'm thinking living on, or just off of Suk will have its advantages

There's Carefour at the top of OnNut, better that Tesco's.

I think there's more eye candy in Lad Phrao.

And the totty in Pinklao is some of the best in city. I'd look there.

Just had a thought. The quickest way to find a place would be to pop into the Toby Jug for a pint and chat with the landlord. He knows everybody and all the news in that area and could put you together with someone who's got a house on the market.

Theres a big night market at Udom Suk, with a nice beer garden too and a massive stage

Bang Na would be handy as to getting out of Bangkok

I had a leaflet come through about a nice bar in Bering, I'l dig the leaflet out

All 3 have BTS Stations and are 15 minutes ride away to Soi's Cowboy, Nana, 22, and 8 , and the the shopping malls for the wife

I was in the Toby Jug a few nights ago, great chicken and mushroom pie and chips for 220 baht. nice guy, the landlord.

Cheers SS, The night market near by is a plus. I enjoy a beer whilst she walks around buying rubbish we will never use.

Having a 'pub' near by too will be good, I hope they show the football. I can't find any info online. (Apart from they moved from silom?)

I think I'm pretty set after a lot of research online on the area from soi 77-107 and on the other side soi 50 etc as FP suggested.

Thats great to narrow the area down, I was dreading heading up and down Suk, then out to Lad Phrao and possibly Ramkamheng. With the new BTS opening has opened up a lot more property at a very reasonable cost.

The eye candy on Udom Suk is hot shit. Plus if you carry on down that road and go over the bridge across Srinakerin (spelling) you've got the radio controlled car race track.

The perfect spot to drink beer and waste money playing with big boys toys.

This website has property to rent all over Bangkok . Pretty easy to navigate but might help if your wife goes through it with you. Both sales and rentals.

    http://www.ddproperty.com/

For example : This in Lad Prao for 12,000 ..two bedrooms with air.

    ddproperty.com | ???????????????????? ???????? ???????? 12000 ???????? | ??????????????? ???????? ??????

    More near S

    Sukhumvit , Bang na

I live on Ladprao 80. It took some getting used to because the area is almost totally devoid of farangs. It is fairly close to the MRT, Fortune Town and Ratchadapisek shopping. Ratchada is an up and coming location due to the MRT and the new Central Mall at Rama 9. There is a Foodland on Ladprao 95 which is a godsend.I think it you should be able to find a lot in that location within your budget.

The missus has a condo in Huay Kwang (sp?) So I know of and like the Ratchada area. Esplanade shopping center has some nice eye candy

The condo she rents out, but we couldn't stay there anyway with a dog.

DDproperty site is great, thanks. There certainly are bargains to be had. Found a 3 bed detached house on Suk 101, walking distance to BTS (apparently) electric gates, big garden, nice furniture, oven washing machine etc for 14k a month!

Bugger rented it out about an hour before we called

I used to live in Sukh 56... its a fairly quiet street with a bunch of town houses primarily on the left hand side as you walk down the street... given a lot of the townhouses are late 70s and early 80s vintage you should be able to still get a half decent rent on them... some even look empty. I would suggest getting your Thai wife to make enquiries (don't rock up yourself or the price will double or more). Also, if you are after a house, check out soi 54, down towards the back end... there are a number of two storey houses on reasonable plots of land that traditionally have been available pretty cheap. Until the last few years they tended to sell pretty cheap too.

There are also some fairly new townhouses on Soi 50 that have low occupancy... not sure what they are charging, but some are for sale with an asking price around the 3 to 4 million mark.

There is 4 new train stops added past On-Nut. Do you know approx which Soi the train reaches?
