Bangkok voted Best-Value City in the World

Bangkok voted Best-Value City in the World
    Santibhap Ussavasodhi

BANGKOK, 2 July 2011 (NNT) – Bangkok has been voted the World’s Best-Value City in the June 2011 issue of the Sunday Times Travel Magazine, one of the most popular monthly travel magazines of the UK, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

TAT Deputy Governor Chutaporn Rerngron-asa announced that the honor was awarded to the Thai capital city as part of the Value for Money Awards 2011 arranged by the Sunday Times Travel Magazine.

The award was voted by magazine readers, including writers and experts who cast their votes on direct experience from their visit to Bangkok in the past year. The criteria used include the city's best value in terms of admission fees to places of attraction and transportation fees.

The award also featured Bangkok as ‘the Best Street Food on the Planet’ where tourists can enjoy various kinds of food, both Thai and foreign, offered at inexpensive price on both sides of the streets.

Other cities receiving the award are Buenos Aires of Argentina, Havana of Cuba, Cape Town of South Africa, Mumbai of India and Istanbul of Turkey.

Was in Phnom Penh a few weeks ago.

Food, drinks and lovely 20 yr old girls open to anything, endless people who can speak English despite being educated to the age of 3, and the locals possessing an average IQ that rose above double digits made quite a pleasant change.

It did still smell of sewerage though, so not completely different to BKK.

What's to see elsewhere in the states? Certainly no one is going to see the farmland, I can only imagine that they'd be visiting Hawaii.

New Yawk and Vegas, the national parks, skiing in the Rockies come to mind.

How about Yosemite or going rafting down a river in Oregon ? Or going to a concert by one of your favourite musicians who rarely tours overseas ? Hearing JJ Cale play in some little bar daown Saywth (down South) would be a highlight for me. He's getting pretty old now.....

Or perhaps finding out where your favourite actress/female singer dines regularly, and going there to sit at a nearby table so you can pretend to choke, and she hopefully performs the Heimlich Manoeuvre on you.......just to get a hug ?

The reason it is so cheap is because the Baht is way undervalued. Times are changing. Unless Thailand goes on some major socialist spree that will fuck up the economy, the Baht will rise for a long time.

Too much to see and do in the United States. In addition to those already mentioned. Hiking in the mountains. Bicycling in the country side, Sights in so many places NYC, Philadelphia, Gettysburg, Virgina. Sanoma and Napa Vally, Mier Woods, and the list is endless.

Actually the US is very good value these days, outside of the major conurbations anyway.
Bangkok may well be cheap on a 'world cities' basis, but it sure doesn't look cheap from where I sit.
Australia is a heart attack on a stick, awfully expensive now.

America is a great place for you Aussies and Euro-weenies to come and visit- we love your funny accents (which will add ten points to your assumed IQ and deduct 20 points from your presumed heterosexuality).

I was thinking the same. Udon is way cheaper than Bangkok and it has just as little to do.

I reckon that Bangkok is a great place to visit, lots of stuff to see and do

living there full time got a little repetitive though, but that may have been because I lived in a hotel for months and months, not the best alternative
