They will move to 33/1 - right in between the Robin Hood and the Royal Oak (formerly Bull's Head).
Where? There is a small speculative development in between them, a sort of boutique mall erected where the outdoor Thai restaurant used to stand, but I wouldn't have thought that was suitable. Can't think where else it would be since most of that soi are small businesses, viz 7/11, Jap bakery, Jap restaurant and a few Jap orientated massage joints.

Same side but before you get to this new mall. There used to be a sporting goods or ball sports shop in there - fairly large shop house.

Don't be fooled by that....everyone on here knows Thursday is Cabaret night, you will meet Betty, Butterfly, Loy Toy and Bobcock camping it up dressed in drag then doing their Can Can. Don't stand too close to the stage though
They will have your eye out

A lot of construction work going on at the new site of the Dubliner, expected to be finished in about 6 weeks. Apparently the building will also include a small guest house.

On a side note I heard that the fat guy from the Royal Oak was furious when he heard about the Dubliner moving in right next to him and tried to jeopardise the deal by offering a higher rent but everything was signed and the landlord turned him down.

I'm yet to visit the Royal Oak since it opened - I went to the Bull's Head from time to time, is it basically the same under a new name?

    Same same, but different.

Different management/owners, just doesn't have the feeling of a well run and managed pub to it - but that's just my opinion. Not my favourite place.

Yes they have a few parking spots. Price has gone up to 899bt though for an Eco room (Just been over there to check) and my vouchers aren't valid on an Eco room. 1200bt for a standard and you can use the 100bt discount.

    Looks alright though.

I hope they've turned down the music volume inside, shouting in my mates ear when he's sat next to me is not my definition of a good night out or a good pub

Doesn't sound too promising based on the above... Still, I might check it out for myself some time. Is the food any good? BH food was OK, some people used to rave on about it but I don't think it lived up to its reputation. Christmas Lunch was always good there though.

I never stay there long enough to eat. Heard mixed reviews but more on the mediocre side.

I've been in the Royal Oak a few times. The food is very disappointing.....

I think I've eaten in there 4 or 5 times and have had a problem twice so not a good ratio at all. Once I ordered ribs and they were so dry I struggled to eat them, didn't finish the meal (and I normally love ribs). Another time was with the misses and her rice was off. It stank and the whole thing had to be sent back.

That was a while ago now though, maybe they've got their act together on that score by now. Maybe.

The Royal Oak is owned by the old partner from the Robin Hood who got it after falling out with the other partner. From what I heard he was a little harsh in the way he wrestled the lease off the Bulls Head. Guess it's a bit of karma the Dubliner opening up next to him now.

I enjoyed some good atmosphere watching the footy at The Sportsman a few times. Its moving to Soi 13 now, reads like Stickman got fucked over down that Soi

The Sportsman in Washington Square closed its doors last weekend and I thought that was it for the popular sports bar. But within days of closing I got word that the venue is not yet ready to take its place in Bangkok bar history. The Sportsman is going to be reincarnated further up Sukhumvit and in what I find to be a curious choice, the new location will be in dodgy Sukhumvit soi 13, below the condo building with the corny name, the Trendy. Soi 13 might be the next soi over from popular soi 11 which today has a number of bars and restaurants that wouldn't be out of place in Singapore, but soi 13 doesn't resemble soi 11 in any way. Soi 13 is down-market and full of riff raff at the mouth of the soi. Further up the soi are what I can only describe as low-end bars frequented by some seriously dodgy looking geezers. If you wish to avoid the riff raff at the mouth of soi 13, you can cut through from soi 11 via a passageway that passes Villa supermarket, that is if you don't mind being groped by hags masquerading as masseuses who can probably give as good a massage as a crippled soi dog and who really just want to convince punters to enter their tiny booth so they can get him off and back out in record time while pocketing 1,500 baht.

The lease was available after the building owner got fed up with the Bulls Head.

The new lease holder did nothing to wrestle it as you put it, he just stepped into a void.

    I noticed that.

It'll be a mess, but I think a thread merge is in order.
